View Full Version : Running/foot pain/venting....

I just have to vent my worries/frustrations...

Problem no. 1: I completely did something to my right foot in my run today and now it hurts so badly that I can't walk on it. (pain is on the outside/underside of the right foot, about in the middle length-wise). I'm now icing it and took some meds so hopefully that will help... but if it's a stress fracture or something, Ill be totally devastated!

:( I had such a great long run this past weekend, 12 miles and I negative split my last three miles.

Problem no. 2: I totally fell off the healthy eating wagon for the past week. Now Im in a panic because Ive gained a couple pounds AND Ill most likely not be running for a bit until my foot feels better.

Help me from going off the deep end, and reaching for the slow churn ice cream... !!!

Oh, Syndirelah, don't despair! Congrats on your great long run. Please take care of your foot. I know it's hard to take time off to heal, but better to take a little time off now rather than lots and lots of time later, right? At least, that's what I tell myself! :p

As for the eating thing, don't beat yourself up over it. What good will that do? I bet, no good at all. And throw out that scale! :eek:

How about taking this time to nurture yourself? Do some things you normally don't have time for and that will be relaxing and de-stressing for you. For me, nurturing myself is completely foreign and feels really uncomfortable . . . but, I know it's supposed to be good for you! :rolleyes: If you really feel like you must move, how about trying some non-impact stuff like swimming.

Hang in there, okay? And keep us updated on how you're doing. :)

Is it possible that the foot pain is a stress fracture? You may want to get it checked out ASAP.

I think going to the Doctor is good advice especially if you dont see any improvement in your foot.

Do not beat yourself you about how you've been eating. Today is a new day to nourish and honor your body! Eating healthy is a great way to tell yourself you are worth it! There are alternative comfort foods and some healthy ways to satisfy cravings. Treat yourself to something good for you!

Sorry! Getting injured sucks.

Ice and advil will help, and wearing supportive and comfortable shoes (=running shoes) as much as you can get by with.

You should definitely go to the doctor. It could be a stress fracture. The location of your pain sounds pretty much identical to what I experienced two years ago when I got peroneal tendinitis (it was also a really sudden onset for me). For me, it took about two months of physical therapy to heal, and I think it would have taken longer if I hadn't had the PT. I believe it is somewhat unusual for it to take this long though, I have some other issues that complicated the healing.

Yeah, that is a very common location for a stress fracture. It's also quite possible that it's peroneal tendinitis (I had that too), but you can't be sure till you get x-rays and the doctor tests the severity of it. A stress fracture may not show up on x-ray, but the pain pattern will be a bit different between tendinitis and a fracture. See a doctor. If you cannot stand to walk on it, that's not good at all. You don't want to be making it worse putting off treatment.

I wouldn't waste your money on a GP if you can go to a podiatrist, sports medicine specialist, or orthopedist directly. I'd bet they'd want to do x-rays which can be expensive so be sure you can get some coverage.

Glad it doesn't seem serious!

I've been battling a blood blister recently and stumbled upon this book. All I can say is WOW. I wish more authors would delve into this much depth when it came body care for athletes.

when i had tendinitis there, i needed at least a month of PT where they did massage, ultrasound, and icing. my PT and I also discovered that a lot of the tension was actually coming from a pelvic imbalance (everything would get tight down the right side, culminating in foot pain). So we did some exercises and adjustments to help fix that. It did help the treatment of the peroneals work better.
