This really does work!!! It is fun.

YOUR AGE BY EATING OUT

Don't tell me your age; you probably would tell a falsehood anyway-but your waiter may know!

'YOUR AGE BY DINER & RESTAURANT MATH'

This is pretty neat.

DON'T CHEAT BY SCROLLING DOWN FIRST!

It takes less than a minute. Work this out as you read .

Be sure you don't read the bottom until you've worked it out!

This is not one of those waste of time things, it's fun.

1. First of all, pick the number of times a week that you would like to go out to eat.

(more than once but less than 10)

2. Multiply this number by 2 (just to be bold).

3. Add 5.

4. Multiply it by 50.

5. If you have already had your birthday this year add 1758... If you haven't, add 1757.

6. Now subtract the four-digit year that you were born.

You should have a three digit number.

The first digit of this was your original number. (I.e., How many times you want to go out to restaurants in a week.)

The next two numbers are YOUR AGE ! ------ (Oh YES it is!)

THIS IS THE ONLY YEAR (2008) IT WILL EVER WORK, SO SPREAD IT AROUND WHILE IT LASTS.

I remember when this made the rounds as "how many times a week you have sex"...rather than eat out. That was about 30 years ago.

I got this by e-mail, thought it was cool, and sat down to figure out how it worked. Strangely, nobody else found that as interesting as the original post... fancy that. ;)

Yeah, maybe people would rather eat out than have sex, after 30 years.

I would love to know how it works! I don't quite have that mental capacity to figure it out on my own. :o

You could tell me how it works and I won't remember it tomorrow!:D

lol, we have similar names, I had to say to myself "I haven't been on this site for a couple of days, how did I reply to this thread?" ;)

When I was in grade school and high school, people my parents age used to type these up and pass them onward until the paper wore out. ( I remember in 5th grade an "old maid schoolteacher" confiscated one from a boy and was horrified to learn that his mother not only let him read her jokes, but had typed him his own copies.) Then, first mimeograph machines, then copiers allowed folks to keep one and share the copies. Now, the jokes make the rounds faster on the internet, but sometimes one stongly resembles a very old joke.

But you knew that all ready.;)

I'm with you. I figured it out before I did the calculation. Simple math. But it does give a zinger of amazement if you suspend being curious.

Recently there was a webiste with the secrets to magic tricks. I'm actually sorry I found out what was behind the magic.

Magic and wonder is good. Within reason.

For some silly reason I thought I would offend because of the age thingy, sigh.

You gals are silly!:)

What age thingy?

Oh, you mean the AGE thing.

I may be scientific and break mathematical codes and be skeptical of some pandered "truths;" but to me, age is the real ineffable magic of the universe.

It's flexible and elastic and as cool as the first time you played with a slinky.

Funny you should mention it... my first choice when I registered was "badger" but it turns out it was already taken... by YOU! *shakes fist menacingly*

Hint: You will get the same result with any number you choose at the beginning.

If you're over 100 years old, it won't work....

I'm so mathematically-challenged, I could never begin to figure out how stuff like that works.

So here's my dumb question...is 2008 really the only year this will work?

Let N=number of time eat our per week (1.le.N.lt.10)

Let BY= year of your birth

(2N+5)*50 + 1758 - BY

100N + 250 + 1758 - BY

100N + 2008 - BY

Obviously, 2008-BY is your age, N is the first digit of the resulting 3 digit number.

Changing 1758 to 1759 will make it work in 2009, etc.

Brava, Deb.

the fact is, you ARE inputting your birthyear. That should be the first clue.

Nice math Deb.
