OY. I hate having to put out the prayer flag posts. But I need some for a friend.
My friend out in nor cal's brother had a horrible mtn bike accident yesterday, and needs serious prayers/vibes sent his way.
He was riding alone, so a hiker found him semi conscious on the trail. He was airlifted from Marin to Santa Rosa memorial with a brain injury. He has some bleeds on the brain, lots of facial trauma, and a broken wrist. From what I've heard he should be ok, but it's really touch and go right now. The bleeds are apparently small, but in a tough area.
So if you could keep him in your thoughts, I'd really appreciate it.
He also comes from a catholic family, so if you happen to be RC and attend mass, could you please light a candle for him.
Thanks all. I know I can count on you.
Denise
P.S. I'll be out at a 24 hr mtn bike race until tomorrow afternoon, so I won't be able to check in with ya'll until sometime tomorrow. But I will give you an update when I hear more.

He is on my prayer list. TBI's can be tough to deal with...for both the survivor and care givers. I will keep them all in my prayers.

Oh, no. That's terrible news. :( I won't be attending Mass tomorrow, but I'll throw in a few Hail Mary's for him. I hope he gets well soon- even though it'll be a long recovery. I'm glad that someone found him before he'd been there too long.

Yikes... no matter how good the prognosis, brain injuries are always scary. :( Here's to a full recovery from all of his injuries, and a swift (and safe) return to the saddle!
Healing butterflies to your friend, and calm hopeful peaceful butterflies to everyone caring for him.
Hugs and butterflies,

I would like to respectfully request that requests for prayers be moved to the way off topic category, just like posts concerning politics are. While we all have a love of bicycling, we differ dramatically in our views of religion and politics.
Please don't take this the wrong way. While of course I hope your friend recovers, I do not believe for a minute that anything any of us think or post will have any effect on the outcome. Not only am I an atheist, but I believe that people's reliance on religion over logic has created many of the problems our society is currently facing. So personally I find posts that allude to religion offensive. Sure, I don't have to open these threads, but for me it would be easier if they were posted in the way off topic section.

Well I think it should stay where it is. I'll even go further and say as an Agnostic I do think many people sending positive vibes, energy or otherwise good healing thoughts can and does help the person they are intended to help.
Anyway it certainly can't hurt, neither do words of prayers hurt me to read everyone has their own way unique to them for whatever reason.
True this is a cycling community but what are we if we aren't people first who genuinely care for each other however uniquely we choose to do so?
I don't wish to argue the subject, but to give respect to all other who wish to believe whatever they choose and offer my genuine sympathies for others, certainly this can't hurt anyones feelings unless they let it.

Thank you biker chic, and all others who sent positive replies.
Maybe it's my lack of sleep from being up all night supporting hubby in his first ever 24 hr mtb race, but I have to say...
If you see something that requests a "prayer" or "good vibe" and you are offended- DONT OPEN IT!!!
Sheesh!
Yes, I guess you could say I took it the wrong way.

Waiting from my friend on an update, and a bit worried that she didn't respond to me today.
Yesterday she said he was doing better, breathing on his own. But the cats still showed bleeds.
It's going to be a long recovery.
Thanks all for your well wishes.

Sending good vibes. I believe good thoughts, prayers, vibes whatever you want to call them do work. And if they don't, well no harm done either way.

All good wishes and healing thoughts for your friend, and I hope you will post updates. When someone is ill or injured, the specifics of faith (or lack of faith) aren't an issue for me. I hope you have good news about your friend very soon.

RM - good juju coming to your friend from the Big Easy. Any news?

He was up and moving yesterday, even got to take a shower. He's also aware of how severely injured he was. I guess he lamented that he can't even spell anymore.
But the good news is they have started therapy with him. So I guess you could say he is out of the woods.
And thanks all for any good thoughts/prayers/vibes or WHATEVER that you sent his way. I also believe that it helps- or I wouldn't have posted it. And I still believe that it was in "the right" forum as it was a cycling related accident. I don't know how ya'll search this forum, but I just search on new posts whenever I log on. So I don't even know which forum an individual topic was put under. Does it REALLY matter??? As a longtime member of this forum I have met many wonderful folks with beliefs that are not my own. I do not get offended by their beliefs or posts. Some things I don't believe in, but I respect their right to believe whatever they want. I just close the thread and move on. But as I said, I love and embrace the diversity, love, and tolerance of everyone on this forum. I hope it stays this way.
And from the family of my friend. They thank you!
Stay safe everyone!

That is good news, I am glad he is doing better. Do you know if he even remembers what happened?
I am so glad to hear that your friend is on the mend! The butterflies are having a happy dance now!
er, oops! Am I even allowed to mention butterflies anymore? My goodness things really seem to have changed over here at TE. I really only check in here now to see if anyone needs butterflies. If they are now deemed offensive, I'm starting to wonder if I should check in here at all....?
That aside, I'm still sending butterflies to your friend for continued improvement and a full recovery, and to support his family and health care team.
Hugs, too

I hear they are in desperate need of butterflies in the rainforest.
I think some of you guys are really over reacting. I think Trisk made a reasonable and respectful point.
Happy full moon to you too. I also don't understand what prayer requests are doing here in the cycling related forum, not that any of us bother to make sure we are posting in the "right" place. and it is not normally such a big deal.
But then why someone like LBTC who isn't really hanging out "over here" any more comes back here just to kick sand in someone's face or make a scene is totally beyond me.
I think Runningmommy was doing just fine over here on her own without someone else throwing in animosity.
And RM, I do hope your friend heals fast.

When I read this or how someone is pinned against a wall by a van, it makes me realize how potentially dangerous some situations can be on a bike, and sometimes I'm lulled into a safety net and forget. We need to do the best we can to protect ourselves, be aware and be safe.
I'll add my good wishes and prayers RM!
