Well ladies, it's official, I'm building a road bike! I tried to rent one for bike to work week, the LBS didn't have rentals and tried to sell me one. I tried to get them to take 4 payments, they tried to get me to use some stupid finance company. I say bah, I've spent a small fortune there, and if I don't come through with my payments, they have a bike and the money. Whatever, after my last tuneup where they fixed nothing I'm over that shop.

This way if I build I can buy parts as I can afford them, and get exactly what I want. I have steel frame lust, and so Joshua advised against buying a sub $2k steel bike. Bah, if he wouldn't have taught me that "Steel is real" I'd still think "Plastic makes it possible."

Sooo, this weekend I'm going to his house to pick through his parts pile. He has a full Dura-Ace and Ultegra group and he wants to sell both, cheap. Then we're gonna wait around and try to score me a nice steel frame. Yay!

Depending on how badly you're suffering, the Competitive Cyclist (http://www.competitivecyclist.com/za/CCY?PAGE=SPECIALS) has some deals for the budget-minded. ;)

Smurf, don't forget all the fine, vintage steel frames to be had for a nonce! I know Corsair would second this. I'm rebuilding a Peugeot I found out at the street waiting for the trashmen to come.

t'would seem since I got my loverly vintage Peugeot, my life is raining vintage bikes. They're like termites, they just come falling out of the woodwork and gosh darn, I love steel!! Tell people what you're doing Smurf and I think you'll be amazed and how much "extra" stuff people have laying around that you could use.
