It took me that long to get the slide show semi-organized.

I rode 35 miles from Meyersdale, PA to Cumberland, MD.

We went through three train tunnels.
The first, the Big Savage Tunnel was the longest.
http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/bb14/zencentury/zencentury/GAP_Myersdale%20to%20Cumberland/DSCN1979copy.jpg It was well lighted
but cold in there!
The second was not as long and not lit at all.
I made it through but had to fight to keep from looking at the light.
I wasn't so successful on the last, unlit, tunnel.
I made it about halfway through but started to get disoriented
and even a little dizzy. I had to dismount and walk to the end.
It was a little cold, a little windy but the trail is great.
We even saw patches of recent snow.

Thanks for the pics! DH and I are really excited about planning a trip from Pittsburgh to D.C using the GAP and C&O path sometime next year.

Fun, Zen! Great pictures. I've gotten disoriented in dark tunnels on my bike. I have to channel Obi-wan Kenobi and let the Force take me through.

ZEN!

Great pix! I wish I could have joined you. I rode 46 miles this w/e but the trees here are just beginning to turn. Hopefully next weekend I can get some good tree pix over in Cambridge.

VERY cool! Thanks for posting your pics. Beautiful scenery (and weird about the tunnel and getting disoriented). :)

Wow, that must have been FUN!

I checked out the rest of the photos at the link you gave. I'm really curious about the no trespassing sign and fenced off .... what looks like natural or hand-hewn tunnel. What's that all about? Looks eerie and interesting.

I think that was a natural cave in the limestone.
Why it says to contact the power company for access I don't know:confused:

Tri Girl, I don't know what that tunnel phenomenon is but it's not uncommon. The brain is a funny thing, it doesn't know how to act when things aren't as they should be, you know?
