I went out this morning, all bundled up because it was still in the 30šs, and met my friend c-s for a ride. We did 31 miles together, and I did 40 total. I'm so lucky to have found this riding buddy! She and I are a good team, like the same crazy cold windy conditions, like the same roads, and because of this, are still revving up the miles. I don't keep track of how many I ride, but I think I may have had an all-time high this month, based on the longer distances we've been riding. My friend topped 800!!! for the month! She's a rock star!

I felt like a sausage with all my layers. Wearing full tights over knickers was warm, but not at all comfortable. I kept slipping around on the saddle, and was pretty sore by the last few miles. I think I'd prefer to be cold. It may be time to look for new tights with a chamois. Except for that, a perfect ride!

Today I just rode during my lunch break, out on side roads for about 45 minutes. The weather was beautiful, it must have been close to 70 degrees.
Yesterday I got paged to one of the other sites, so on the way there over lunch I took a detour to creve coeur park, where there is supposed to be a mountain bike trail that I've never been able to find. I rode around on the roads till I finally found it, and rode it. It's a nice little trail. Then I was able to get out a little early and when I leave from this other site, I go right by al foster trail, so I stopped off there and rode to stinging nettle, another mountain bike trail. It was another beautiful day, so I got in rides on two different trails in one day! That's pretty good for me.

Last night I had some stomach issues and really questioned if I would feel like meeting DH today after work. I woke up with cramps but put my bike in the car anyway because it was supposed to be mid 70's and it is almost the time change. After a stressful afternoon I decided to head to the trail. I get off an hour before DH and he encouraged me to start without him. This is a beginner to intermediate trail so I should have been just fine by myself. When I got there I spent 15 minutes sitting in my car or walking around trying to tell myself I could go alone.

Finally I just told myself to give it a shot. I hit the singletrack and was shaking from my tremor and nerves. I hit the first obstacle, the rock bridge and didn't quite make it up. This thing is fairly easy but for some reason I am looking at the rocks instead of past them. Weird thing is at first I flew over this. Anyway I went on, rode on to some harder stuff and even took a descent that rattles me. I had to roll up to it 3 times before I dropped! DH finally arrived and we rode together. I made several climbs I had not in the past. After nearly two hours I was happy but pooped. DH did one lap, hit a tree and came back with a bloody finger! I just got a few bruises from bailing out too quick and all was well. I think I did about 12 miles. :)

The best part is I have a couple days I may get off at noon and I now know I can go ride this trail alone and have fun. What a great way to end what was a crappy day!

Thanks, redrhodie! You are the best bike buddy! It was a great ride and I know we'll keep riding right through the winter now that we can keep each other company out there!

Day fiveof base training - only managed to get in 46mins after work on the false flats in front of the house before the setting sun was low enough to blind cars to me and I stopped for safety reasons......

RR - your post made me smile cause I have been feeling like sausage... not because I am bundled up cause we're heading into summer here... but because on my training rides I wear two pairs of thin shorts, and the extra elastic on my legs makes not-so-pretty extra bulges!
