How long of a commute do you have? How much time does it take you?

12 minutes to the bus stop followed by 25 minutes on a bus which drops me right next to where I work.
I'm experimenting with biking to the next bus stop down the line and see how far I can ride by bike that's practical. Things are complicated by the fact that I'm already very near the last bus stop before the interstate ride to Wilmington.
I could take Maryland Ave the whole way but it would take me a week to get to work with all the traffic signals.co
Now then, if I did the commute by car (as I did for 25 years) it took me a HARD 30 minutes on a grid-locked interstate. It's a no-brainer which method is more fun, better for me, and better for the environment.
13 to 15 km each way, 35 to 45 minutes depending on the wind, the hills, the route, and the light (if it's dark I'm slower).
I would not take the car to go to work but if I did it would be about 25 minutes.
By bus it's the same as by bike, or a little slower.
13 miles one way. It takes me about an hour and ten minutes, depending on which lights I get stuck at.
Driving is shorter since I can take the expressway--only a little over ten miles. That takes about 25 - 30 minutes.

Mine is really short. When school is out (on fall break this week) I can take a route that is 2.5 miles. Next week I go back tothe 3.5 mile route. Oddly, that route goes right by the schools, but not the school bus stops. The bus stops are what cause the traffic problems for me.

I live 33 miles from Providence.
If I bike the whole thing, it takes about two hours. I go through five towns, from rural to urban. It's a cool transition!
If I bike to the bus, it takes 40 minutes to ride about 11 hilly miles to the bus stop, and the bus takes about a half hour.
I have a choice of four bus stops ranging from 5 miles away to 15 miles away. I usually do the one that is 11 miles away.
If I drive in, it takes about 35-40 minutes.

Bike: 10 miles, 40 minutes
Car: 8 miles, 15 minutes
Regretably, I've been doing much more car commuting than bike commuting. I'm burnt out with the whole idea, I think. Part of the commute has me sprinting on a secondary highway through a major highway interchange. Very stressful and not fun. Especially in the dark and/or during rush hour. I think that's much of my burn out right there....
Pardes, MD Avenue is part of my commute, and I can offer you some suggestions for cutting off the sections with no shoulders, on-street parking, and many traffic lights. PM me if you wish.

I think we've been here before :D: http://forums.teamestrogen.com/showthread.php?t=17752&highlight=commute+distance
My approximately 13.5-mile ride is 50 to 55 minutes each way in the summer, and anything from 1 to 2.5 hours in the winter, depending on ice and weather.
I almost never drive, but I seem to vaguely recall it taking about 20 minutes by car.

yeah, but we still love to talk about it.
4.5 miles to work, 4 miles home bike or car. 20 minutes to work, 30 to home.
can you say HILL?

28 miles home by bike, the reason I have my husband drop me at work. 20 miles by car. 30 minutes by car, nearly 2 hours by bike. I have been toying with selling my commuter and just carpooling. DH loves bike commuting, for me it is hard work. I am tired when I get home, don't want to cook and I usually only have a couple hours before bed. Basically my whol day was work or riding home from work. The ride home is hilly and often in a headwind. I wouldn't mind just riding my Cannondale on sometimes and carrying a back pack. Having trouble justifying the $$$ I spent on the commuter.

My commute is long like yours, and I know the feeling about it being long and being tired at the end of it. This is why I only do the full commute only once or twice a week, and do a hybrid commute the other days. Burn-out comes easy at 60 miles a day.
Your commuter may not be the best bike for that commute. I find my road bike works better for the long commute - my Jamis Boca with saddlebags works better for the hybrid commute.

I have this issue, too. When my life is jam-packed full of things to get done, it's really hard for me to justify 3 hours on the bike each day. I'm torn between feeling guilty for riding and feeling guilty for not riding! :p

Yep, we do still love to talk about it...
:p
24.5km to work... between 42mins (with a tail wind) to 54mins. Alot of downhill, work is at sea-level
24.5km home seems much longer... at least 65mins, sometimes when I'm tired and with a head wind, 85mins.
If T travel by car its 25mins each way.

We have a fairly short commute in of 4.5 miles in under 20 minutes. We make the ride home longer and include a loop in the park, 8 miles in 30-35 minutes. Faster average speed on the trip home with fewer lights and stoppage. The ride home depends on the wind and my energy level at the end of the day.

Just under 10 miles each way. It takes me about 40 minutes of pedaling, 50+ minutes overall.

By Bike: 8 - 10 miles round trip. It takes me about 30 min to get to work.
I do not drive. Take public transportation. I try to ride to work 2-3x week.

Yeah, right now I feel like commuting is an extension of my job. It makes riding not fun. Doesn't help that I don't like my commuter saddle and can't get the POS off. I am waiting impatiently on DH to change it. But really, I just think it is a bit much.
I have been thinking I should sell the commuter but I will hold off. Two weeks now though without commuting. Actually two weeks without riding at all. :(

I'm such a weenie! My commute is only 2.5 miles to work (13 minutes), and 3.25 coming home (21 minutes). :o
Mine is a wimpy mile each way :) But I love riding my bike and wouldn't give it up for anything :) I also ride it to the farmer's market, the small co-op store and several other places! :D
I moved this past summer and when I lived there, it was approximately three miles each way :)
I will say that longer distances are more daunting when I am feeling a bit under the weather or when I feel I may be coming down with something (especially after a long day) :(

I have a 3, 3.5 mile commute and it takes me about 20 minutes. It's pretty straight, and there's only a bit of uphill. It's harder to bike nwo though because it's getting pretty cold!

My current route is 12.4 miles one way. It takes me almost an hour to get there, but only about 40-45 min on the way back. The elevation gain to and from work is about the same, it's just that the signal lights are better at 10 o'clock at night than they are during the day. I'm going to try out some new routes that are slightly longer but have less car traffic and fewer overpasses. By car it's about 11 miles and takes 20 min.

Mine is 14 km each way. Going to work takes about 40 mins and coming back about 45 with hills.
Bus would take about the same or longer. And driving during rush hours would take about 25-30 mins.

mine is 16 miles to work -- around 1.5 hours with big hills

i am doing this since summer, but i still hate that hill on my way to work.

11km each way.
To work by bike: 35 minutes (depending on weather, lights, whether i"m chased by rabid dogs, wind, fog, slippery leaves, the desire to actually get to work etc)
Home by bike: a little longer as it's up, up, up. And more traffic/lights. And darker at this time of year.
By car: 10 minutes depending on traffic.
By bus: 30 minutes.
I wouldn't give up my bike commute for the world. Except on snowy and black ice days.

About 10 miles each way, bike or car. To work: about 1hr. Home: 40-45 min. Hills, hills, hills on the way in and honestly, I'm just NOT a morning person. It takes me 25-45 min in the car depending on traffic. It takes about 45-75 min on the bus depending on which one(s) I can catch. :)
