I am new to cycling and i am buying a new bike next week. I am looking to buying a Giant OCR 1. Does anyone have any feedback on this bike? Any info would be great. I have been on a small test ride and it feels pretty good. I am so excited to get started. Any suggestions would be great!! Thanks so much!

I've had a Giant OCR 3 for a year and it is my first road bike. It's been good for me to learn the basics and to know for sure if I really wanted to stick with cycling. But it's good that you are going for the OCR 1 since it will have better components and won't be as heavy. I'm having trouble getting up the hills and even going fast due to bike weight. My hubby decided I needed a new bike a few weeks ago and I finally made my decision last night. I'll be upgrading to the Giant TCR Composite 2 which I get to pick up today!! The OCR 1 will be a great beginner bike for you. Ride it for a year and then you can upgrade.

I just bought an OCR1. YEA! So far I love it. It is soooo different from my old ride and way cooler. The bike is light and still a little scary to ride because the handling is quick, very quick! Every time I ride I have to pick the bugs out of my teeth cause I'm grinning so much. :D I test rode many bikes and they were all uncomfortable and had about given up on getting a road bike. The OCR1 felt good the minute I got on. I still have a few issues with comfort but I think they have more to do with adjusting to a totally different riding position and being too fat than with the bike itself! I'm hoping both will be improving with miles in the saddle. My is silver with pink trim. What color did you order? bikerHen

Don't pick the bugs out hun, they're added protein and should help to keep your nutrients levels up on your rides!!! :p

I can use the protein but . . . those bugs are just so scratchy going down!

Hey BikerHen- I also order the pink with silver. I was going to go for the royal blue bike, but I see blue bikes everywhere and i wanted to be different!! :D I test rode the OCR1 and i really liked it. I also test the specialized dolce, it was nice as well, but the OCR the better Shimano gears. I think I will be happy with the OCR1.

Are we two peas in a pod! I said the same thing. " I see blue everywhere and I want to be different." I was a little worried about the pink, but it's just a nice accent. I just LOVE my bike. :D :D My mph has increased 2.5 miles. I can do 20mph on the flat and feel like I could go forever. The problem now is that my riding partner/daughter is slowing me down. She's hinting that she needs a new bike now too! It just burns her 20 year old butt that old mom is leaving her in the dust  bikerHen

I've seen the seat, but just didn't put the two together. I have a Terry Butterfly seat on trial now, maybe I'll have to try the pink seat as well. And it is for a good cause :) I just have to think more pink. :D bikerHen

I am intrigued! Where can you get TMobile Bar Tape? I am assuming it is pink...and I've got to have it!
Thanks!

BikerHen-
I am so sorry to hear about your daughter and the RR tracks. I am glad she is ok, aside from some scrapes and bruises. Maybe she had a deal with the tracks to get a new bike!! ;)

Great, just when I retire my T-Mobile-schemed black with pink flames Cannondale, all this cool stuff comes out!
TE is still selling the hot pink tires too - I think they're gonna look just fine on my gray and celeste Bianchi...

She had barely stop shaking when she said maybe it was time for a new bike! Maybe it was all a plot! If it wasn't for the fact that her fall screwed up several plans for the coming weekend . . . I wonder?
Let me know when you get your OCR 1 That first ride will be a blast! bikerHen

Audio-A have you looked at the Continental gand prix 3000 tires. They have some that are grey with a beautiful magenta stripe. Check out their site. Might go great with your grey Bianchi

I've had a pair of those on backorder - I completely forgot about that! I already have three of the Schwalbe pink tires sold right here - I was waiting for my trip to Colorado to put them on my Cannondale, but I think they'll look HOT on my Bianchi. All of my clothing and helmets are pink, to match my old bike, so it makes sense to throw a dash of pink on the bike. What is so funny is that in my normal (non-biking) life, I couldn't care less about matching anything! And, purple is my color, but in my bike life, it's all about the pink! Hmm, now I realize that y'all just solved my shoe problem! I had a pair of pink Nike Ventoux shoes last summer, then switched to Sidi in the winter, which fit better with heavier socks. Now that it's warm, my shoes don't fit. I was hesitant to switch back to my pink shoes, but if they match my tires, then I don't see a problem! What do the fashion mavens think???

Ok Girls-
I went to pick up my bike and it was not ready! (how cruel is that!! :) ) So today is Thursday and I pick up everything...biking shorts, jersey, cleats, helmet, and of course, my bike. I got the cat eye wireless computer put on and also some upgraded petals. I am so excited!! I will update you later on my first ride. I even took half day from work so i could ride!! :D

Picked up my bike today!! It is so SWEET!! It is a great ride. I live in a town where there are lakes everywhere and they have bike lanes around pretty much most of the lakes. So I went riding lake to lake and it was a great sunny day here in FL. It is so funny when i was reading the posts before i got my bike, i think it was bikerhen or cosairmac that said they had bugs in their teeth from smiling so much! I had to laugh today while i was riding because i caught myself doing the same thing...aside from eating the bugs!! :D But i was, smiling like a little kid that just got a new puppy! I got up to 18mph, I thought i was flying until two guys blew past me...but i will eventually catch up to them. They were very nice, waved, with thumbs up. I guess they could tell i was a newbie! I will venture out tomorrow, I cant wait, it really is awesome.

Hey CG - I've had my bike about three weeks and I'm still eating bugs everytime I ride. I can cruise on the flat at about 20 mph with little effort! A sweet ride it is. :D :D My speed is up about 2 MPHs on the flat and on hills as well. While I am in no danger of shedding my hill slug status just yet, I am feeling more confident and am trying some bigger/longer hills. Having this new bike makes me think I can try a 50 mile ride in two weeks. Well see! Have fun and just think of all those bugs as protien.:D bikerHen

Best of luck with your new bike and glad to hear you are loving it. I can relate to the smile. I find myself smiling as I am riding and think what people are saying when they see the lady on the red bike riding with a silly grin on her face. But what the heck.
Riding in bike lanes from lake to lake. That sounds wonderful. I never heard of Lakeland Fl. but it sure sounds like looking into should we decide to move out of NY.
Hope your weekend will include more glorious rides.

Nah - they were looking at the fancy sweet new bike - they probably didn't even know what sex was riding it! :D I'm so happy for you and the bike - so does it have a name yet?

Jo-n-NY, my entire family grew up in basically Levittown, not to far from you. My cousin owns All-stars Gym on Hempstead Tpk. Have you heard of it? It is such a small world you never know!! BikerHen, thats great! 2mph is alot, i wouldnt have thought until i tried to go a little faster then yesterday and it is quite the workout. Happy Riding this weekend everyone!! :D Becareful!!

*whipsers* i do that! blue bike, blue tires, blue marble handle-bar tape, blue under seat bag, blue helmet, shoes with blue accents, blue gloves, blue "silencer" on my roadID, blue logos on my polar water bottles... and the majority of my cycling jerseys are... can you guess? yep... blue! (but that's more cuz i like blue and find a lot of blue clothing!)
