Yes, I'm on a serious bent to lose last winter's weight so I'm following the South Beach Diet. It works for me (when I actually follow it).
So I drank a V8 . . . and didn't throw up.
Just thought yawl'd want to know about this momentous event.
Yay for you! :p
V8 gives me wicked gas so I drink tomato juice instead.

Oh great. Thanks for the warning.
I can deal with the V8 only because I can knock back a small quantity fast. Tomato juice - not so much. Ewwwww.
Should I give an update in a few hours?

I make DBF go and brush his teeth when he's bought himself a bottle of tomato juice on a weekend and indulges in (virgin or not) bloody marys. Only then I will kiss him again.
DETEST HATE YUCK at the taste of cooked tomato juice.
Now Gazpacho.....

Avoid fruit juices, i.e., sugar. Breakfast for Phase 1, Day 7, lists "vegetable juice cocktail."
jobob, if you didn't return my SB cookbook, then who did? It was in the bag with the rescued pillow and now resides in the hutch. I just checked.

Seriously! The only time tomato juice of any sort comes near my lips is when it's been "doctored up." I loves me some Bloody Marys -- but with gin, not vodka. Gin is where it's at.

Fast and dirty Gazpacho:
Chop the following into a bowl: cucumbers, green onions, bell peppers (red or green), other vegies of choice. Pour over 1 small can Spicy V8. Eat. :D

I lost 25 lbs on SB in 05. But the only way I could or can drink tomato juice or V8 is in a bloody mary.
To me it's like hoisting a can of plain tomato sauce.

jobob, if you didn't return my SB cookbook, then who did? It was in the bag with the rescued pillow and now resides in the hutch. I just checked. Did we give you back both of the books you lent us (the original SB book and the cookbook)? If so, nevermind, I'm just going senile.
Whoa, someone say vodka?

Knudsen makes a vegetable cocktail juice that I prefer over V8. Perfect with a squeeze of lime.

I've seen but didn't want to buy the large bottle due to my lack of friendship with tomato juice. Is it less tomato-ey? I love fresh tomatoes, but juiced it has to be in small quantities.

Oh, yes! I'm in! I love bloody Marys, with extra hot sauce. My drink of choice. salt, celery...but hold the worchestershire sauce. I also love V8, drink it every day but I don't care for the splash.

Nope, sorry. Still pretty tomato-ey. Similar to V8 infact, but IMO tastes less processed and has a bit more kick to it.
Can you substitute veggie soup for the vegetable juice cocktail? It seems like it would have the same benefits as long as it's not something like cream of potato soup or corn chowder. Just make a big batch and freeze into individual servings for the convenience factor. How about freezer friendly smooth gazpacho? Then toss in fresh chopped veggies when you eat if you like texture.

Much as I love it, not sure I want it for breakfast but it's a thought.
What is clamato? I've heard of it but never had it. Clam and tomato juices? Um . . . . .
Seems the Knudsens stuff may be the easiest route -- and I'm lazy.

Here Pax, have a Beano and come sit with me. We'll drink Bloody Marys together...
Those V8 blend things that are mixed with fruit are very drinkable. The fruit flavor overpowers any of the tomato-ey-ness (I'm declaring that a word:p), and it's not too thick. Plus you get a serving of fruit and a serving of vegetables with each glass. I don't drink it a lot, usually my parents have it at their house, but I'd always avoided regular V8 so I was pleasantly surprised.

I like V8 and tomato juice, especially with pretzels on an airplane.
One thing that I really have a hard time with is oatmeal. But it's good for me and it does warm me up (still no heat in this renovation-in-progress), and my cholestrol is on the high side...so I eat it. With enough brown sugar, I can get it down.
okay, back to V8...

Damn them! I normally pay attention to that stuff, as does my dad. That's why I generally assume if it's at their house, it's passed some form of inspection. Oh well, I don't buy the stuff, I think I'll be alright.

There's a company called Kagome (http://www.kagome.us/products.aspx) that makes some tasty vegetable and fruit juice blends without any added sweeteners. My children really like the Purple Roots and Fruits and Burgundy Berry Blossom. I'm not sure if it would be SB friendly, though, since the addition of the fruit juices drive up the carbs. BTW it's pretty pricey.

Budweiser has a new beer with Clamato. No wonder they had to sell out. I like tomato juice but this stuff was disgusting. Tomato juice and beer. Who on earth thought of that?

I'm going to make sure the Household Grocery Shopper has both the Knudsens and the Kagome on his list. The Kagome looks like some good non-tomato-ey options. Freddie's is listed as a Kagome dealer.

Yeah, I can only do the low-sodium V8 - and only in very small quantities. I can't even finish a small can in one sitting! :p
Tomatoes - good
Salsa - good
V8 - ick
I'm tempted to try blending my own from fresh veggies, though - how hard can it be?

V-8 is much better poured over ice into a glass. Drinking anything from a can doesn't do it for me.
