I usually take two meals with me to work, especially if I ride, because I feel lousy if I scarf something and then ride up the hill to work. So ideally I take a breakfasty yogurt, rolled oats and fruit, (lately local peaches which really is ideal- but in the winter banana or apple or whatever) and something lunchy which ideally is leftover dinner maybe curry and rice, or stew and bread, or pbj if things are sub-ideal.
Then when I get to work I usually eat the lunchy thing because I'm hungry and I can warm it up and I'm cold, and it takes longer to digest, and it feels substantial. Then later in the day, when there is a calm moment or two at the school, I break out the yogurt stuff and eat and goof off in my office for a few minutes.
If the day is extra chaotic and I'm coping reasonably well with it, I may not take a break until after the kids leave at 2:45. Then the yogurt moment can be especially calming.

wow malkin, you are really organize in preparing your meal. :) I'm not really cook at night so I barely have left over food. My lunch break are pretty short, so I tend to eat something quick. I had one of those Deli Creations Sandwich from Oscar Mayer for lunch, they only take a minute or less to heat it up. Have you ever tried it?

Lately, I've been in a horrible rut. Every single day my lunch consists of one whole wheat tortilla with spinach and one can of salmon or tuna. I put ground pepper on it, roll it up, and eat it at my desk. While the spinach heats up in the microwave, I open the can, rinse the fish, and dry it with a paper towel. Quick, yes. Exciting, no.

My husband cooks, so we have lots of leftovers, so it's pretty easy to grab something. I have the best lunchbox in the world (Zojirushi's Ms. Bento) which fits into the side section of my Topeak trunk bag--so my lunch is always separate from my clothes.
The place I work is also a garbage food paradise, so if I'm hungry at work, it can be BAD. I've gone down that path a few times...It's a school for kids with autism, and the kids are motivated by whatever they like--and often what they like is cheetos, m&ms, skittles, chips, and so on.

In the ER there is no "lunch break". It's usually "eat on the run" so I bring lots of finger foods: baby carrots and cut up fruit. I'll make a peanut butter sandwich and cut it into 4 parts and stick it in a baggie. If I bring something that has to be heated up then it's guaranteed to be so busy that I end up snacking on crap because I don't have the time to heat my food.

The worst is thinking there's time, sticking the food in the microwave to heat...seeing it there after a hundred interruptions hours or ages later. :(

I've been in a horrible rut, I've run the gambit of eating sandwiches, soup, salad, leftovers, hospital caferteria food, frozen meals(WW Smart Ones). I tend to tolerate the same things for breakfast and tire quickly of the same old lunch things. I need to get creative with some wraps, tortillas. Getting the time to heat up a lunch is a not a guarantee(gave up the frozen meals, they take way too long in the microwave), so something cold is the best. Tomorrow's going to be 1/2 PB&J, carrots, cucumber, yogurt, apple -- BORING.

Tell me about it:(.. some frozen food took forever to heat and I like my food warm, fresh and nice. you might want to try Deli Creations sandwich, it's easy to heat up (only 60 seconds or less!) and they have in variety; Turkey & dijon cheddar, Turkey Monterey, Steakhouse Cheddar, Roasted Ham & cheddar ... so, you don't have to eat the same stuff everyday..:)
surgtech1956 ~ If you need to get creative with wraps, they also have flatbreads sandwich which I really like when I'm watching what I eat, they're only 350 Calories...:)
I know some of you have "crazy schedule" at work more than I do, but we deserve to have quality lunch! :) not just PB&J...
