O.K. so I know that most of you are riding way more than I am, but for the month of August I only logged 67 miles. I was determined to get my mileage up and the total for September is 197! My goal was 200, so I missed it by 3 miles, but next month I will get even more logged - weather and health permitting. My bike is performing great, and I have been working on picking up speed in intervals. I have my first 50k this coming Sunday, so wish me luck!

Ummm I consider myself a more experienced rider than you and I only had 227 for the month. I think you did awesome!! Me not so much lol.
Can't wait to hear about the 50k this weekend, I am sure you will completely kill it. :D

I'm thrilled to be able to say that I was able to ride 222.7 miles. I rode over 126 of those last week. It's great to be back on the bike!:D

Congrats on boosting your mileage! :D What a great accomplishment.
I'm excited about a monthly mileage thread. I hope you were intending for others to post their monthly totals, because I'm guessing that's what's going to happen.
I averaged 391 this month, 47 less than last month (which is my highest ever at 438). Now that I'm done training for my century and school started again (I homeschool my kids), I'm not riding quite as much. About three times a week. (But part of my total was the century.)

I didn't think I accumulated much mileage this month, since I only rode on the weekends. However, after tallying it up, I found out that I got to 515.47, which isn't too shabby. :)
Highlights from the month of September included:
Riding a 200k (125 mile) ride with Jobob and Veronica
Climbing Mt. Hamilton on Labor Day with the Bike Forums group
Riding in Waves to Wine, a benefit for the National MS Society. It's a two day ride, and I did 100 miles on Day 1 and 75 on Day 2
Riding with Dachshund and her new Seven
Meeting bikergirlsj and her friends on a ride thru Portola Valley and Woodside
Experiencing the zenlike nature of doing a night ride with Jobob and Leebob
wildhawk, have fun on your 50k!
mary, welcome back!

What a way to close out the summer. It was a good month indeed!

Me too! and I came in at 478. WIth the shorter days, I can't get as many miles in the evening...and I refuse to ride in the dark.

I got in 347 miles in September but I spent most of it doing short fast rides trying to get ready for my first Triathlon--i was part of a team and was supposed to do the bike ride BUT, we didn't do it because of a torrential thunderstorm.
In August, I got in 508--that's my highest monthly total since I started riding in April of this year.
This month, I should have close to 500 again I'm thinking, as I've got my first Century later in the month and am doing some long distances (for me anyway!) in preparation for that.

You all are awesome! It's cool to hear your goals for future months, too. Fall can be such a lovely time of year to ride.
That said, this is going to sound bad, but... My total for September is 740 miles. And that was with slacking off and only doing a couple longer rides on weekend rides. This is the power of commuting consistently: I don't think I drove to work once all month.

I came in at 357... and half of that was this weekend :p
Good thing the ride wasn't too hilly

Because I was training for, and did a century, I was higher than normal. I was about 280.

909 for August, which is a current personal best, and 806 for September.
It's getting dark earlier and light later now, so a lot of my riding from here out will be in the dark or at least low light.

Wildhawk, awesome job on upping the mileage! Good luck on your 50K this weekend. Please let us know how it goes for you!
Tom, dang dude, that's a lot of miles. :)
I have 518.98 miles from September 1 through September 12. On account of my cracked fork, which I'm still waiting for Trek to replace, I got zero miles from September 13 through 30.

yeah that would be my BF. In fact my average would be higher if I wasnt lolligagging waiting for him to catch back up when we ride together.
On monday's group ride the boys were kind enough not to drop me and we averaged 22.4  One guy told me afterward that they couldnt drop me if they tried but I think he was just being nice. I do a lot of drafting on that ride :p

A low month for me but life is so very good so I can't complain. I strained my hamstring so I've cut back my riding time in hopes that it will heal quickly. I would like to ride 4 centuries this month to make my total for the year 30.
Add to the early sunset times and this thing call work. When I do ride distances are half what there were - gone are the longer rides Monday - Friday.
So I ended the month of Sept with just 539 miles. This is sad compared to August, July and June when I broke the 1000 mile mark each month. Time to accept the fact summer is gone and I'm no loner a Biker Bum!

"Just" 539 miles! HA! Still...well done, MakBike. I think that will still keep you near the top of the list on BiJo for Team TE.
I got 366 for September. A bit shy of my goal of 400, but still I'm ahead of my goals for '08. I also spent more time off the bike - for me an ITB issue has slowed me down. My goal is 300 for October, but b/t a Century on Saturday (if I finish it) and a 5-day bike vacation, I think I should do okay.

I had a lofty goal for this year but then I discovered mountain biking and rediscovered the simple joys of running. The mountain biking I am not good enough yet for it to be much more than 10 at a time. But dang I am happy with it all! :D Plus who wants to ride when we had over 50 days the temperature went over 100, it was the summer of hell or in hell that continued well into September.
October won't be great either since DH is racing (out of town one weekend), I have a huge landscaping project I am starting and we are going out of town another weekend. I might ride the weekend of the 25th and commute 1-2 a week.

I had a good month with 538 miles, but arielmoon holding a 19 mph average for 400+ miles is awesome. Our group rides can be fast, but after stopping to regroup, going thru town, etc... I usually have a faster average solo, but not close to 19.

I think a lot depends on where and how you ride.
I can average over 22 on a flat 11 mile course in a triathlon. That's without any drafting.
Or I can average around 13 mph on a 200K with over 7,000 feet of climbing and again no drafting since I'm usually by myself.
Be inspired! But ride your own ride.
My September miles - 4 commutes @ 4.2 miles
1 failed 200K attempt @ 107 miles
1 completed 200 K @ 124 miles
1 triathlon @ 11 miles
Total - 258.8 miles with 14,000 feet of climbing.
I'm doing more running now than riding.

Thank you Misandal - that encourages me and means a lot. I know that I have a long way to go and being an overweight (70 lbs.) rider with heart stents, I have to keep working hard to regain my health. I am truly in awe of all of you however - I hope that next year I will be in the 400+ miles per month category!

You shouldn't compare to others. Is 197 your best? Did you feel good about yourself? Did you have a great time? Good, you win for you! :D Some people a 10 miler is a warm up, some it is a personal best.
You did awesome and you did it with enthusiam I haven't had for the road lately. I feel humbled by you because you have this gleeful joy when you describe every ride. That is something some of us old timers need to hear. And all us who did more than 197 can remember our days of 197 being a milestone.
;)
ETA- Wow you are riding after heart stents? I am always inspired by those who take control after learning their health needs to be improved! My Pawpaw did the opposite and left us too soon with a massive heart attack. I wish he had walked, got a bike, did anything that might have bought him one more week, month, year. Be very proud of yourself and every one of those miles.

740 miles in August
674 miles in September ... the semester started, and teaching 250 students (+ one celebrity) takes a toll
All miles ridden on the fixed gear bike (48/16 ratio) in either moderately hilly (NJ parks) or flat (Manhattan is NOT flat, but cannot be considered hilly either) environment.

426 for me. 50 flat miles, 376 hilly miles! I'm content with this mileage total since I only get to ride Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
I'm not sure my October is off to such a good start...it's supposed to rain a lot on Saturday (although I'll believe it when I see it!). I have my first Century coming up on Oct. 18 so I need to keep up with the training miles!!!

out of the 357 miles (7 rides total), 16,201 feet of elevation gain, average 15.5 mph.

Oakleaf, that's not an average month for me. I rode the Blue Ridge Parkway in 5 days - that's a good way to get some impressive elevation! That 5 days accounts for 49,660' of my total. (See my ride report in Adventure Stories.)
UPDATE: Trek has not yet replaced my cracked fork, but my LBS hooked me up with a temporary replacement (God bless 'em!) so I can be riding again while we wait for the one that will match my bike. The loaner is BRIGHT RED and my bike is white. I'm stylin'! :)

All these reports are inspiring to me, too! I've only been road biking since mid-July, but I'm in love with it!
I did 333 miles in September. 13 rides - mostly rolling hills. Avg speed is about 16 mph.
I did 296 miles in August.
My goal for October is 400 miles.

I deeply admire people achieving their *own* goals and improving themselves and not getting hung up on comparisons. IT takes a lot more guts to get out and do when the silly numbers don't make anybody go "WOW!" - but they *do* make *you* stronger and healthier and happier.
And consider that while endurance nuts go further... um, stand up at any public gathering and ask the *general public" if they've ridden 200 miles in a month.
Right :)
So go put your miles in at bikejournal.com under "team estrogen" and then every; single mile you ride will add to the team's total!
(But yea, I wanna know about the celebrity!!)

Eek! Wow, great job on the ride without any other riding last month!
Great to meet you too! My sister totally dropped me too  it's best to ride one's own pace on a ride that long, I think.
For comparison, here's Saturday's leg of the LSR (first image) against our local 80-miler from the Saturday before:
But I wasn't kidding when I said those shallow grades were kicking my @ss! My legs just didn't have that gear! I was better the second day after I found a little bit of a rhythm. It was more like riding in a headwind than riding the hills I'm used to.
Anyway I had great fun! I enjoyed meeting you and seeing a bit of your part of the world.
