View Full Version : Can hoods "shift" over time?

I got the bike last Christmas.

I looked down at the hoods today while riding. The left one is straight on, the right one turned toward the left!

This is with thick white factory factory bar tape (it's a Specialized Dolce), too. So it's not like it was a custom job.

It's not causing any pain, but it annoys me to look at it. So maybe I shouldn't look at it. Anyhow, I am wondering if these things slip or shift on the bar over time?

Hoods are attached around your bars under the tape - could be you have a screw loose:D

It is common on STI shifters, because you always push them in one direction when shifting. You need a long allen wrench to loosen the binder bolt under the rubber (look for a groove in the lever), straighten the lever, and retighten.

Did your bike fall over at any time recently? That often pushes the hoods in. If I crash or something, I usually just use brute force to align it again, though I guess I should loosen them first. If it doesn't take much force, then the screw is definitely loose, and it'll happen again unless you tighten it.

Yeah you just have to pull back the hood and loosen the screw on the side and then straighten it. This happened to me once when I fell over.
