I went this morning and did the Liberty Hill Lions Rir Roarin' Ride. The weather was very nice, 60 degrees to start and about 80 when I finished. I originally signed up to do 65 but when I got to the split 50 felt like a better choice. The route is rolling and I have not been doing much riding, I didn't want to feel like crap all afternoon if I pushed it too hard. Instead I enjoyed the ride, got home before the temperature could crawl towards 90 and feel like I worked out but not like someone beat me up (that is how long rides sometimes feel). Next year I may do longer, it was a really well run ride that I cannot believe I haven't done before!

49.18 miles (didn't start the computer for the ride to the turn out to start) and a speedy 15.7 mph. I have really been struggling all summer with my riding and averaging about 14 mph on these same roads. Felt good to actually challenge myself and win. :D

Congrats on a great average, and for enjoying your ride. I've been following your posts and know you've been struggling a little this summer, so it's nice to hear that you rode well and had a great time!:D

I haven't ridden yet today, but plan on doing some easy miles with DH when he gets off work. Maybe just a short ride to the lake to enjoy the scenery. Nothing hard at all. Maybe I'll throw the panniers on and we can swing by the grocery store on the way home...

I tore a calf muscle Tuesday playing tennis, and finally ventured out on my bike this morning to see if I would be able to ride. And YAY! I was. I did 16 miles over an hours time, just on flats and slight inclines. Not scenic or exciting, but I was outside again, feeling the fall breeze and warm sun, and that was enough for me!!

Northern Neck River Ride. It was a wet start but a beautiful finish. I only ended up doing 20 or so miles due to the rain. It was still alot of fun.

Down in Rolla visiting my parents, so took the mtb along. I went to Lion's Club park mtb trail, 3.7 miles. I rode it through once then turned around and rode it backwards once. It's such a nice trail; packed dirt with some roots and rocky creek crossings. No steep hills, just rolling terrain. Just in case you get to thinking it's too easy and you can go fast, there's lots and lots of sharp turns and narrow spaces between trees. Every time I ride it, it reminds me why I like mountain biking so much. It's in a very busy park, but it's so quiet and peaceful in the dense trees, and the tires are silent on the dirt singletrack. I never get tired of it.

55 kms. on a fab fall, warm and sunny day with a bit of breeze.

Ride included going to bank and shopping at the market for our bare refrigerator. We loaded up more fruit and..fresh whitefish..which is rare to see in our area since it is a freshwater fish shipped....from Manitoba. :)

Then due to fresh fish, we cycled home, dropped off food. Then returned onto bike to go off to a foodie place for more grocery shopping, then to our favourite Japanese food supermarket where they also make great fresh sushi, sashimi and other takeaway foods at good prices. Wolfed down some packs and some miso soup. This was 3:00 pm. I'll be eating leftovers as a supper snack.

And more shopping by me at pharmacy on way home..and coffee at a cafe near home.

Well, we had fun mountain biking today. Here's a little video (of sorts) we put together.

That's lichen in my helmet, not hair sticking out. :p

I can't see the video!

Are you getting an error message or is it just not coming up? It should send you over to Photobucket...

it sent me to photobucket, where I had the same blue screen. When I clicked "play" itwent black and nothing ever came up.

It should start playing automatically. Nothing happens if you just let it run after you click on the blue screen in TE?

I can post stills if no one can see it. :(

I started to ride my new permanent route. One skinned knee, two flats, a new tire mod route, and 12 hours later - I did it! :)
more obviously to come:p

DH, myself and our friend did the Tour de Whidbey century ride Saturday benefitting the local hospital. What a great day, weather was cloudy in the morning, but by the time we got to the southern part of the island it was blue sky and almost 70 degrees. The ride ends at Greenbank Farm which sells nice wine so we bought a nice merlot and headed back to the beach cabin and spent the rest of the afternoon relaxing on the beach. Our friends wife loaded up all the kids and dogs, jumped on the ferry and met up with us at the cabin for some great family time on Sunday. What a wonderful weekend!!!!

Husband, son and I did the Big Dam Bridge 100 in Little Rock on Saturday. (But we did the 50 miles.) Last year my average was 12, this year 14.5. I shaved about 30 minutes off my time--there is some discrepancy because they have a finish clock but of course it doesn't match up with my computer. It was under 4 hours, which was really great for me.

Husband did the 25 last year, so we were real proud of him for doing the 50. In two weeks at the Tour De Cure, he's planning on upping to the 75 if he still feels good at the turn. Son did the 50 with me last year, but bonked about 35 miles in, because he refused to eat at my urging. This year I was able to convince him to eat. He did the last 20 miles by himself and beat us back by about 10 minutes!

I had a great speed there for a while. There wasn't much wind, and the terrain was rolling or flat, and I was able to hold around 18 all by myself, for at least a couple of miles (there was no one around, but someone did draft off me for a while and then when I slowed up a hill, passed me up and wouldn't pull, but congratulated me on my speed). I was forced to go fast because I was having trouble with the FD--couldn't get from the big to the middle ring unless I went all the way down to granny first. That, of course, cost me momentum which ticked me off, which made me mad enough to stay on the big ring up hill, even though I had to cross chain sometimes to do it.

Riding my heavier steel touring bike in Vermont for a week did make me stronger. I shift less because the barcons are less convenient. The gearing is lower to begin with so I don't go fast which means I ride longer. Getting on the lighter road bike with quicker shifting felt like taking off the ankle weights.

It was a really good ride. Can't wait until next year.
