Someone posted a trick about using hairspray to get handlebar grips off a bike recently and I remember thinking how weird, does that really work?

Well, I just bought a pair of Ergon bar grips for my bike and went to go change things out. Man those original grips were not going to budge!

So I ran upstairs and grabbed my can of hairspray, wedged the blade of a pair of scissors underneath and sprayed some in. Dang it, IT WORKED!!! Those grips just about slid on off by themselves. Who would have though hairspray could do that?!!!

Just had to say thanks for sharing that tip because you saved me from having a mental meltdown trying to get the old grips off.

Now off to try my new Ergon grips. Fingers crossed that it helps relieve the pain in my right hand!

I use hairspray all the time to put new motorcycle grips on, it starts out nice and slippery so you can get them positioned correctly then it gets good and sticky so they stay in place.

That is a great tip. I've been doing it for years on my Xootr. I was going nuts trying to get grips on before I found that out.

My Xootr buddies and I share a can of hairspray since we don't use it for hair.

in the old days when i was young and into motorcycles, we would use compressed air. you put the tip of the nozzle into the hole in the end of the grip and slowly add air. it kinda balloons up and slides right on. no chemicals. of course once i totally blew up a grip - scared the pants offa me!
