Came up to a red light this morning... line of cars behind me.
A block from work, after 28 miles.
Unclipped on the left, slowed down... slowed some more... just about stopped...
bike tilted right, and I went over. *BLAM!*
I got up, dusted myself off, a pedestrian asked me if I was okay. I was.
Cyclist behind me was chuckling into his glove. I got back on the big blue boob and finished my commute.

Wow.

Glad you're okay.

I would have been either very red or very, very, very pale...... Or I would have died, run over by impatient drivers, while I laughed every laugh I had in me!!

Ten to one cyclist behind you has done the exact same thing and was just chuckling at the memory. Yep, me too, toppled over in front over everybody, very embarrassing :D

That's the name of my bike.
It's been nothing but boobish behavior since the day we met.
We have a very grudging relationship. I grudgingly acknowledge that when I take good care of her and fill her tires properly, she goes pretty fast. I grudgingly acknowledge that her saddle, a factory throw-in from Specialized, is more comfortable than my aeron office chair at work.

She grudgingly acknowledges that once a week I take her on some of the nastiest roads in Rhode Island to get to work, and the other days, I take her on some pretty steep climbs to get to the bus.

It works.
She's a boob, though.

LOL! Sounds like she has a lot of character.

I fall on my boob(s) when I mtb. I consider it a my airbag option.

Glad you are o.k. I did that exact same thing on Spirit, only we were on the Pinellas Trail and only a couple of people saw me fall. My DH had adjusted my seat up too high and I could barely get a toe on the ground and I just tilted too far to the left and over I went. He was asking if I was o.k. and I was fussing at him to check over Spirit and make sure she was o.k. She didn’t have a scratch, but I had a nice case of road rash on my arm that I used to block my fall. I felt so stupid because I was sitting still and just simply fell over. I imagine those chuckling cyclists were remembering some of their own falls - most of us has had them, some of us have had some serious ones. I chalked mine up to experience and immediately got my bike fitted to me. Love the story of your bike’s name. They really do become an extension of us and our personalities, don’t they?

Well, now, who's gonna clean up my keyboard since I just spewed my soda on it? That was hilarious! :D

OMG I did almost the same thing on sunday! I was stopping to see what was clicking on my bike- undid the left cleat but was for some reason leaning right.

D'oh

Some road rash on my elbow and some small bruises on my hip.

I had witnesses too! So embarassing!

Glad you are ok!!

ROFLMAO... And wondering why these incidents NEVER happen without a large crowd assembled and staring right at you?

Oh yes, you are not alone! Thanks for the chuckle. I am sincerely glad you were not hurt!

There WAS a large crowd assembled when I fell Sunday. I was helping at the local kids races and thank god I was riding sweep, not the leader. We were on wet grass, in the rain, on a slight slope. Clipped in with my left foot, started to go, my right foot slipped off the pedal, I over corrected and down I went in front of everyone. :o And this was after I almost got my a$$ handed to me by a six year old on a pink barbie bike at last weeks race. Thankfully I can't make it to the final race this Sunday. bikerHen

Yup, been there, done that before. Came up to a red light and pulled my left foot out. Suddenly started tilting right and that was all she wrote. The worst part was I was at a very busy intersection with a ton of construction going on. Traffic was backed up due to the construction so LOTS of witnesses!!! Thank god I was visiting my sister out in Michigan when this happened so no one to reccoginize me.

I still have a nice scar on my leg from that escapade.

I've done this too, twice in one week as a matter of fact. First time was my first time out on my new clipless pedals and I was stopping in a driveway coming out of a shopping center and my DH came up really close to me and scared me and i freaked out and tipped over.

Second time i was actually stopped and unclipped and standing in the bike lane at a red light and i just lost my balance and went down right on top of the sidewalk. I actually landed sitting down on the sidewalk with my bike on top of me and i couldn't get up and my foot didn't unclip when i fell and i was at such a weird angle that i couldn't get my foot to unclip so i had to take my shoe off. There was a long line of cars and the light turned green as i was still trying to collect myself and get back on my bike, the first car in line wanted to make a right turn and felt the need to wait for me to turn...i wasn't even back on my bike yet! I had to wave him on for him to go because not only did i fall in front of everyone but i was holding traffic up too!

I am not brave enough to ride in cleats yet! But for the 2nd time this year, today I managed to fall down the steps at school in front of crowds of students having lunch. Why couldn't I do this when they were all in class and no-one could see the very inelegant crash and burn?

If I can't walk properly, how am I going to unclip from bike cleats? So glad you weren't hurt though, other than the pride! :)

Jay, actually all of last year I rode with normal pedals (with straps) and found it harder to go in and out of straps than clipless. I love my clipless... they feel much freeer. It is not so much that they are hard to clip out of -- during this fall my left foot was actually out and about ready to "touch down." I just went over right. I think if I had been on normal pedals, sure, I might have touched down with the right foot, but I would have gotten it in the crotch.

Funny - my daughter, on the same day was WALKING her bike on the sidewalk. She turned to look behind her to see if she could cross. The bike handlebars turned left (following her head) causing the bike to lose its balance and fall right, with her on top of it.

Must be in the genes...
