DH and I are going to Minneapolis this coming weekend for a Twins game Saturday night. We'll have Saturday to look around until game time. We're staying in a motel close to the stadium, and will be driving past the IKEA store on the way in.

Can anyone tell me some interesting shopping or sights to see along that route, or in the stadium area? I looked through the Mall of Americas once, that was enough. Ditto the Downtown Minneapolis stores (too pricey!)

Are there any antique or junk stores? Or salvage stores -we're restoring a 1928 Sears kit bungalow and always looking for things - or outlet malls that we can get to fairly easily? Any interesting places to eat? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks!

I am not too familiar with area salvage/antique stores, but one place DP and I find fascinating, and that might help with your restoration project, is Architectural Antiques: http://www.archantiques.com/.

Not sure what kind of food you are looking for, or time of the day, but for downtown grills/bars I would suggest The Local, Ike's, Lyon's Pub, the Newsroom or Kieran's. Since you are from Nebraska, you are probably not looking for steak, but the best place downtown is Murray's (think swanky 50's steak house), for a carnivore blow-out there is Fogo de Chao. For a great breakfast or lunch, do try Hell's Kitchen. If you want something more upscale, let me know and I can suggest several. Your motel should be able to direct you to any of these spots and tell you where the nearest coffee shop is. Caribou Coffee is ubiquitous here and tastes better than Starbucks!

I guess I should have asked first which team you are rooting for.:D

Twins, of course! :D I just got an email that the game time has been changed to accomodate a broadcast by Fox Sports. Instead of 6:10 pm it will be 2:55 p.m. so I won't be shopping as long as I thought .

We like Minneapolis! We went to a game there last year and the fans were so nice! I also noticed that the busses have bike racks on them to help people bike commute. Very neat.

Thanks bunches for the list. I'll take it with me and find some of these places. You're right we won't need steak, not that we eat it much anyway.
