Happy first day of fall everyone! It means for me my constant work season is almost over!
What I can't believe is here in California (central coast that is ) our tree's are already starting to change! We have a ginko that is turning yellow and our liquid amber is turning red! And yesterday the wind had a bit of a chill in it. I love fall! Our farmer's market is teaming with Pepper's and heirloom tomatoes. Squash's of all kinds are available. Yesterday I made pumpkin soup.
But I also honored the last day of summer with a bbq and a margarita!
WHat is your favorite part of fall?

We don't really have a fall out here. :( But it does mean cooler temperatures, although 80's are still common. It also means shorter days which I hate. Most of our trees are evergreen or just turn brown and drop leaves, no fiery colors. But fall is still my favorite season, I think it is because I loved school and it was always back to school time?

Fall to me means weekend climbing trips to NY (the leaves are still green, though we're seeing hints of color) and trips to my favorite farmstand. It's apple season! I just bought my first bag of Honey Crisps, which are the BEST APPLES evar!

I'm also beginning to see a few leaves changing here, but it'll be weeks before things reach their peak. I made chili yesterday, so soup season has officially started! Also planning on going apple picking some time this week. To me, fall is about sunny, comfortable days, and cool nights. I can still enjoy being outdoors and not have to drip with sweat or put a million layers on. Then at night, I can curl up on the couch with a blanket and some hot chocolate:)

Fall is my favorite season.

I love the angle of the sun right now. The crisp chilly air in the mornings (though I'm sure we will have several more hot spells before fall really sets in). The leaves on some of the trees are beginning to change. I go the long way to work just to watch one tree in the median of Highway 9 slowly turn to bright red. There aren't a lot of trees that turn spectacular color in Northern CA, but Chinese Pistache, Gingko, and Liquidambar do put on a show.

Soup! I have veggie soup in the Crock Pot this minute.

It won't be long before I bring my wool and cashmere sweaters out of storage.

Cycling in the fall is so much more comfortable than summer.

Five One- Chinese Pistache grow very well in Texas, I am trying to convince DH that is what we should plant so we can have some color. He doesn't want something decidous. :o

Oh, but they have such small leaves. Not much to rake. They are great trees. Easy to grow and maintain, beautiful color in the fall. At least they are here in CA. Highly recommended by DH who is a consulting arborist by trade :).

I loooove honey crisps! We just got some at our farmer's market last week! So yummy! We also have an apple tree inn our backyard. They are the best apple pie apple's. But we don't have very many this year cause we did a major trim last year. Maybe enough to make one pie and some apple butter.

My neighbors' apple tree is right on the fence, and they graciously allow us to gather whatever grows or falls on our side. But they pruned heavily last year- no apples for us this year either :(

I'm going to have to find one of those "u-pick" orchards....

How weird, it is the Aggie site I looked at and started telling DH about! He says the Chinese Pistache all look "scraggly" which is when I tell him but the Aggie Site says they are a "Texas Superstar". We can get a 30 to 45 gallon for cheap since he is in the business and probably can get some planting done for a discount as well. I will keep working on him, we have a month before the tree purchase.

Problem is we only can have one tree in our small, narrow backyard and with him working around them all day he likes about 7 different ones.

Having grown up in Virginia, fall is my favorite time of year! And eventhough I have lived in Florida since 1990, I still get all excited when the season comes. We have a very subtle change here, but my golden rain tree starts dropping its leaves, my southern red maple will actually turn colors, and the cooler temps are very welcome after the blazing hot summer. It also means that hurricane season is winding down - the official end is in November. I still try and do some traditional things - making pumpkin and apple recipes, hanging a fall wreath on my door and breaking out my little fall decorative things. I buy Yankee candles in fall scents: cinnamon/apple, etc. And I love being able to wear some of my fall clothes too - I love sweaters! My friends in Virginia and Wyoming send me real leaves in the mail too so that I don’t feel left out of the season! I love opening letters from my best friend and having fresh sagebrush and fall leaves in it! Fall also means that I can get into some serious yard work - summer is too hot to do a lot of it. And the best part is the cycling. I am looking forward to my cooler rides!

I spent yesterday driving through the White Mountains of New Hampshire. (I was going to the Pearl Izumi outlet, but now I'm sorry I did after Andrea's post.)

The fall color is not near peak, yet, but it is still quite stunning up in the higher elevations. I've been in Vermont for a week and I'm actually a little tired of pumpkins, quaint villages with farm stands, and changing leaves. So, I'm going to a Weezer concert. ;)

Well, the it means I can soon put away the fan in the bedroom and just sleep with the windows wide open and freeze out poor DH and DDs(dogs). And am already walking the dogs in the dark in the early am before bike rides and work using my Petzel headlamp. If we're lucky, we run into the wild racoons chattering at us from the bushes and raiding campsites in the state park. Or seeing the setting moon glittering over the ocean and the creek. And I can get out my wool weenie attire! Tokie
