Gee, I haven't posted on here in ages, I had to look up my username and password.

Nursing school just about kicked my butt but I am proud to say I finished with all A's and now study for the NCLEX-PN and have will go forth in January to Angelo State for the RN part. If I survive the summer!

Today I got the Hotter-N-Hell 100 newspaper in the mail. We've had hotel reservations for the ride for months now, and I am embarrassed to say the last time I was on my bike, according to my bike log was January 9th but I am optimistic enough to not cancel those reservations. I'm hoping to get some riding time in this weekend. Did I say nursing school kicked my rear? Anyways, instead of shooting for the hundred mile ride (why on earth any ride with the word 'hell' in it should be our first century is something is beyond me) I think we'll do the 50 again or the 100K. There is a ride called the Dehydrator in OK. Also, another ride called the Roadkill Rally. Now honestly, since I am looking at 40 in few days, I think the 17th Annual Peach Pedal Bike ride or the DeLeon Melon Patch Tour sounds like more fun. Heck, even the Biscuits and Gravy ride sound better than the Vernon Burning. The food rides appeal this year.

It is funny how my riding goals this year are different. Right now just getting ON the bike will be a treat. Last year, everything was balls-to-wall speed, time, ride hard, hills, etc. I told my husband that this year I am going for fun and leisure. Suprisingly enough he agreed. He wants me to upgrade my bike, a Specialized Allez Sport that I picked up for around $700 on sale but I LIKE my bike. It fits and I dread the thought of going through outfitting a new bike. I think an upgrade of components would come first before a new bike. Also, I am thinking that we ought to try a tandem, that might be fun. And, after years of mountain biking I miss that, too.

Well, if I get to the end of the driveway I'll have made an accomplishment. I just wanted to say hi, and hey, I've got a TON of posts to catch up on!

Congrats on Nursing school! Been there done that - and lemme tell ya there really is life after nursing school - and then there is always grad school too - yup - I was dumb enough to go BACK!

What kind of schedule are you going to be working? If you will be working 3 12's a week, training for that 100 miler should be no problem. The first week - see how you do without killing yourself - ride a leisurely pace 3 to 4 times a week. Then just set a goal for yourself to increase your miles by 10 each week - 10 weeks will have you at 100 miles or more!

I have had about 9 weeks to train for the MS 150 - and that is what I have done - my goal by next week was to be riding 100 miles a week - This is my 100 mile week and Im doing 50 tomorrow!

And I started from NOWHERE and WAY out shape on a bike I didnt even have yet!

I wanna ride the 100 at the hotter n hell too!!!!!

Kim, I'm thinking about doing the Hotter-N-Hell but we'll just have to see as it gets closer. My first ride of this year was in April and only 81 miles under my belt so far. I will be signing up for the Roadkill Rally and hope to do the 60 miles. It will be my longest ride ever! I plan to ride as much as I can this month so I'll be ready.

Hey everyone!

To Technotart: sounds like a sane schedule. In the past everytime we rode it was at least 25 miles. Adding ten a week will be a treat.

tatormc: the HHH is great. Only, when we did it, last year...well...it was downright cool and cloudy! I feel like we really didn't do a HHH. We only started biking in June so I bet you could at least do the 50 if not the 100K. It was so much fun. The hills are minimal, at least to us, and the rest stops are fantastic. You are never alone on the road, sag wagons pass regularly. What have you got to lose? :)

Hey CorsairMac, for the record I think the Corsair is the coolest plane ever! Don't tell my PaPa, who flew the B-51! Well, honestly the P-38 Lightning would give the Corsair a run for it's money!
