I've been feeling worn down from work and from lots of other things so today, I decided to take a day off from work and do what I want without any planning.

Stock market was going down the toilet. I can't do a thing about it to change it so rather than worrying, I went out for a ride. A ride where it wasn't a training ride. I rode nearly 30 junk miles. How fun was that  :p. Who me worry. naaa....

30 junk miles riding was what the good doctor ordered. I'm feeling better tonight.

Oh along the way, I helped this man catch his loose dog up in Palos Verdes. The poor dog was so spooked, we had to move ever so slowly so that the dog wouldn't bolt. I wend ahead of the dog and headed him off while the owner went up to him from the rear... It was bit of touch and go but the owner did manage to catch him. Thank goodness.

I need to do this more often. Junk mile riding is quite pleasant. :D

oh the day was overcast, and cool. Very little breeze. Lovely day for a ride.

Good for you! I do that sometimes too - and it is so nice to get out and just ride without worrying about training, etc. I find it eases my stress an enormous amount. You are right - the news has been awful lately - I am looking forward to our next ride on Friday (DH and I have the day off) and then again on Sunday. Cycling is good for the mind and body!

DivingBiker and I did that, too!
We, along with my DH, did a lap around Rosaryville State Park on the mountainbikes. ~10 miles of sweet, rolling singletrack. It was a hoot!
Then...a friend let us borrow his sailboat - a 16' Bullseye - and we went for a sail along the South River near Annapolis. I don't think DB was quite prepared for how loooong it took to get a boat ready to sail (especially when it's not yours and you only did it once before and um...don't quite remember all the steps! Oh, and then have to put it away...just so...so the owner doesn't think you're an irresponsible jerk and never let you use the boat again! ;)). The wind was light and variable, but it moved us. The next step, tho', is to get some pillows for the bench seats. The teak sure looks pretty, but it's a bear to sit on for a 2 hour sail!!!

I am looking forward to this very thing! Just gotta get through this week.....I think I can afford to take a day next week! Even half a day would be wonderful.

I had a meeting 250 miles away in the mountains of southwest Virginia, so I brought my bike with me. After the meeting, I went for a ride in those mountains. It was a very short ride, but did have some climbs. It was just enough to loosen me up for my long drive back home.

So I drove 500 miles and rode my bike 10 miles.

EDIT, whoops that was yesterday, the 18th. Brainmush after such a long drive.
