Well, as if it wasn't bad enough that I bought a Tarmac S-Works at the start of this season...then I had to go and get a second bike. Another Tarmac...this one's an Elite, carbon frame with full 105, and the same geometry as the S-Works. Perfect for bad weather, winter training, and those "just in case" moments. So...here he is, the affectionately named -
BUBBA!

sweet :)
Maybe that's what I need to make the off-season more appealing. A brand spankin' new "beater" bike. :D

Chuck responded by asking me how many bikes I really needed. I said, "I don't know...how many can I fit in the dining room?!"
Everyone needs a brand new beater! :) Or two...or three...whee!

$2200 beater bike? Wow...that's a nice bike...not sure many people would use a brand new, over-two-grand bike as a beater. I know guys with $12K wonder bikes they bought with loose change in their couch...but their beater is like $300! lol I myself have a $7K+ wonderbike...and $3k+ bike...another $3K+ bike...a $2K+ bike...but I cherish them all! My beater is a $400 mountain bike! lol
But to each their own! :) Very nice bike!

Futile. Completely futile.
I bought an FP5 to use as a crit/rain "beater" bike. Within 6 months it had a new Campy gruppo, handlebars, Fulcrum wheelset, saddle, seatpost and now it's getting a ceramic BB. The only thing original is the frame... and the stem.
*** sigh***

This is another reason to have a cheap trainer/beater/rain bike. Cuz getting a $2000+ beater bike often times turns into a $7000 bike after you get it some bling...SRAM Red brifters and derailleurs...AX Lightness brakes...Zipp Vuma Quad cranks...Lightweight/Lew/Zipp wheels...carbon bars, seatpost, bottle cages, light stem, CK headset, etc etc etc...

Allez and I were pretty much joking about the beater thing, you know! :p
I wanted to have a second racing/training bike on hand, and since our team has a sponsorship with Specialized, I was able to get a nice bike at a good cost and get my "beater."
I'll be the first to admit that my 2nd bike is better than the one I raced on all last season. While I considered actually getting a real beater - and still want a nice cheap single speed - this was the right bike for me to get now!

HA! Right? My $2500 Tarmac Expert is my top-of-the-line dream bike as far as I'm concerned. I can't imagine such a pretty, and nice bike being considered a beater bike!

I WAS KIDDING! Holy moly!
All I wanted to do was share my excitement about my new bike, and I feel like I'm getting ribbed for it.

You know, the answer to the question is always: N + 1, where N is the number of bikes you currently have!

I like that formula, 7! I'll have to share that with the DH. Especially since I am already thinking about getting a Single Speed Tricross sometime next year! :D
I figure, one new bike purchase per year is totally acceptable. right???? :p

Geez...wrong choice of words. It was said in jest.
It's a really nice bike. Perfect for your needs.
Besides...Falco deserves a day off now and then. He's earned it! ;)

Seriously, Allez - could we be a bit more serious around here! :) Yowza!
I agree, Falco needs a break during the winter months! He has to go into the shop for his "Tune-Up" anyway!
The new bike is great, BTW! I rode it today and earlier this week - feels great! Fit is good, and he handles reallly well. Falco's a little jealous, but I keep telling him that Bubba is just an addition, not a replacement! :P
