Anyone familiar with Speedplay Light Action pedals? I'm using Speedplay X now and would like to know how they compare or what someone who has used them thinks about them.

I love my current Speedplay X (switched to them because of knee problems) but I'm crazy about the colors available with the L.A. pedals. :)

What I read here http://www.speedplay.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=home.lightaction mentions the light-actions are geared to the 'beginner/casual/recreational' type of cyclist. Easier entry and exit. The cleats look different and probably are. I've used X2s since they first came out, and now have X1's, and find the X pedals so easy I don't see why they need to be made easier to use. They also weigh more than the X1/X2 pedals. I haven't used the LA pedals; I don't think they existed when I first bought my X2s. While I wish my X1s came in white, I don't think it is important enough for me to downgrade to LA (weight and construction).

I've not used them, but what I've read/heard is that some lighter-weight riders were having difficulty getting the pedal to engage, so Speedplay created a pedal that required less pressure to engage. There are other differences, but this was the reasoning behind the pedal, and they are supposed to be based on the X series.

Thanks for your replies. :)

I do love my Xs. The only reason I'm even thinking about new pedals is that lovely pink...:D

While white pedals look great when they're new, they get grungy looking very fast and unlike white bar tape, it's not cheap to replace.

Our team bikes are mostly white up front so my buddy got the white Zeros to match. No matter how much he tried to clean them up (and he kept his bike laughlingly pristine) they looked "dirty" after a couple of months.

I have the X-1's, too and love them. I've never had trouble getting in or out of them. I'm considered one of those "lighter riders" so I'm not sure what Speedplay had in mind when they created the Light Actions. Possibly, it's just a marketing gimmick with new, spiffy colors, I dunno...
