I don't have a problem with overtraining...

So does this mean that Sports Geezer kept its name? I hope so!

Last March I had to take 6 weeks off because of overtraining and I vowed to really listen to my body so that I don't end up in that same spot again. It's the pits! Thanks for posting this, Zen.

How did you know you were overtrained?

How did you know you were overtrained?

My legs felt heavy and would fatigue easily, my heart rate was up, I had sleep pattern disturbance, and little appetite. I also lost my desire to ride.

I had my first bout of overtraining this summer, it sucked, and it was from doing too intense of training and then going long/hard the next day, day after that. Silly me. Now I know better, and now it's my off season so I get to take more time off :D

I'm dealing with some of this right now and just before a metric century next weekend. I've learned that next year I'll listen more to my body and less to books and magazines that I was following too closely and not listening when my body said to stop.

About mid August, after the temps dropped a smidgen, I absolutely knew to quit riding for 2 weeks. My body sent that message loud and clear. And when I did get back on the bike, my speeds were better as well as my heart rate. It's hard, though, to not ride when everyone else is.
