My first cycling injury!

First cycling injury. Worst thing is it did not happen while on my bike but when I dismounted to 'safely' cross Flatbush Avenue to avoid all the turn on the green arrow drivers. I rolled then ran the bike across the intersection as my left peddle caught the back of my leg.:( No first aid kit on board as the blood poured from the back of my calf. I rinsed my leg with my lemon infused water bottle ,tied my left cotton sock around my leg, started to head back home but felt like a trooper as I continued my journey to the park for my ride.
First aid kit is now a part of my riding gear!

Oh, ouch, you got yourself good! But I think you need a more dramatic story...attacked by a bear, perhaps? :p

(Years ago I tried "hopping" my bike over the curb and onto the sidewalk like I had seen folks do in The Netherlands. One foot slipped off the pedal, which caused the other pedal to slam full-force into my shin. I had two rows of "bite marks" like yours, and a major bruise. I told folks I had been attacked by an alligator. :D )

Yesterday I slammed on my brakes when a car decided to run a stop sign while making a right on red. I panicked and unclipped on the left side and then leaned... to the right! I got my right foot out too, but not soon enough to stop the fall - my knee did that instead. I did the rest of my ride with my pant leg pulled up over my knee so that I didn't bleed on my pants, wondering why I never thought to bring neosporin or band-aids on a bike ride. I'll be keeping some in my bike bag from now on!

Sorry you got injured and applaud you for continuing your ride - what a trooper! I fell off my bike two weeks ago and luckily I was prepared. My DH insists that we pack first aid stuff in every car and on the bikes. So I had neosporin, bandaids, etc. in my handlebar bag. We purchased two of those little tiny, lightweight zip digital camera bags and made them first aid pouches. They will slip into a pocket as well. Good luck and hope you recover quickly. My road rash is about healed now.

(Now I'm off to go and pack me a first aid kid to carry, too. :o)

You must have one weird looking pedal to make that mark pattern on your leg. Ouch!

I'm glad you are alright and I'll be sharing the photo of your leg with our morgue investigators (who collect such bizarre things) in case they need to identify such marks on a body.

My goodness but that sounds morbid and it was a joke. Well the morgue investigators actually DO collect such things and you will notice that people who work in the morgue have a very strange sense of humor.

Forget everything I said....I'm just glad you made it alive across FLATBUSH AVENUE!!!!!

Thanks all...it's becoming smaller every day with the application of emu oil, neosporin and vitamin E--it will not be my ID mark!!:o. Now, to go hunting for that vicious bear who bit my leg!!;)

Yup, Pardes..THE FLATBUSH AVE....my pedals have a raised dot pattern and I'm still trying to figure out how it made the diagonal slash it did.

This is one of my favorite threads on BikeForums. I hope it's some comfort to know that others have truly embarrassing falls. I posted in that thread (I got knocked over waiting at an intersection by a heavy bike from which I was dismounted at the time), and so did my spouse (I had no idea he tried to impress a barista by trying to ride over and pop a balloon. Bet he never does THAT again).
