Anyone have any suggestions for joining a cycling group in this area? I'm getting back into cycling, only have lived in the PNW for a couple years (and two close friends just moved away), and looking to meet some like-minded people!

Thanks....

Let's see, ya got your local recumbent group, who welcome anyone, no matter what they ride, website www.ohpv.org - check the calendar. Email list is thru yahoogroups.com and if the "web-ride" gets posted to the email list, no one gets left behind.

An old, old, email list that used to be for the Cycle Oregon folks, has become mostly Portland locals (we're known as Team Bag Balm) that trained together way back then (10-12 years ago), is thru yahoogroups.com also. Great group of people.

Portland Velo has lots of group rides that have various speeds/levels, very nice folks - website I think is www.portlandvelo.net

If you want something slow paced, low mileage, there is the Slug Velo group. I'll have to look up their website and add it in a bit. Again, another group of very nice folks. http://www.patch.com/slugvelo.html

The Portland Wheelmen http://www.pwtc.com/ also do lots of rides locally. Bike Gallery http://www.bikegallery.com/ has organized rides starting at their shops, as does RiverCity Bikes. I'll get the links here in a couple minutes.

If you are into really long distance riding, check the Oregon Randonneurs group. http://www.orrandonneurs.org/ We've done some of their 100k & 200k rides and I have volunteered and worked a couple of their "rest stops". Well run rides and nice folks.

Lots of options, they may not all be your type of people, but you never know, you just might find some good people and rides :-)

What timing... "Next Saturday is the women-only Meet-The-Team ride. A perfect opportunity to come out for a mellow, social ride at a conversational pace and get to know some of the teams who are looking for more women racers.

WHERE: Kettleman's Bakery
2235 SE 11th Avenue
WHEN: Sat, Sept 6 @ 9am
WHO: ALL women riders looking for a team and
ALL teams looking to recruit more women"

Portland Velo will be there, look for the black & blue. While this does read racers, it is probably a fair opportunity to learn about the local clubs as well. Besides, you won't be here long before the Cyclocross bug bites ya!
