Rare: slim-fit fleecy jacket under cycling jacket

Is it my imagination or what? But I've spent the last 1/2 yr. casually searching for a close-fitting thinweight fleecy jacket with a full-length zipper. Not 1/2 or 1/4 length zipper. Need flexibility of unzipping a jacket when hot but not chilled when taking off for cycling & non-cycling situations.

Most lightweight fleecy jackets for women....and men are loosefitting under the arm, more loosely cut. Hence, very unsuitable to fit under closefitting cycling jackets. And for odd rare style that does exist, it is a 1/2 or 1/4 length front zipper. About 10 yrs. ago, there was still abit more choice on slimfit or close-fit lightweight fleecy jackets for both genders.

Am motivated 'cause I have a 6 yr. fleecy jacket that's being well used, but will wear out soon. Already my partner threw out his which was heavily used, but it fell apart after 5 yrs. of wear. I would like to help replace his with a new one as part of his Xmas gift.

Or maybe people now wear the thicker polyester smooth surface long sleeved jackets underneath a cycling jacket??? I dunno, all this polyester..is starting to smell alot.under sweaty workouts ...in my imagination? :confused: At least fleecy has faster aeration.:o

As part of our team kits last year we were able to order long sleeve full zip jerseys that sound close to what you might be looking for. They are Canari, seems like they are probably the Dolce model http://www.canari.com/womens.html
They are thinner than a jacket, a little fleecy on the inside,though they are smooth on the outside and quite form fitting (even for me and I'm small). Good for cooler weather on their own, great for layering.

Have you seen the Ibex Shak (full zip) wool sweater? They are fairly close fitting, breathable,stylish and will not stink! If not, check out the "Wool Weenies" thread in the apparel section, or search the forum for Ibex Shak. They are very popular! Ibex also makes a "Climawool" (74% nylon, 20% merino wool, 6% spandex) soft-shell jacket that fits close and layers well. The spandex stretchiness makes it very easy to move about in. I wear mine on its own or under a light-weight rain jacket or cycling jacket. I forget what name they have for this model, tho. Been sitting here turning it inside out looking for a model label, but don't see a name on or in it anywhere.

If you really want a fleece (instead of the lovely wool options), the LLBean Fitness Fleece might be a good option. It does come in full zip. My pullover version is cut quite a bit narrower than most fleece jackets. North Face and Columbia also occasionally make a trimmer fit jacket (though they usually aren't full zip).

Of course I also recommend the full-zip Shak or Boucle by Ibex.

BUT:

Check-out the Lululemon-look-alike stores that are everywhere in Vancouver. (There is one, among others, not too far east from Granville on Broadway). They tend to have jackets will a full-zip that goes on top of a yoga top. Sometimes they are "fleecy" (but not as thick as a sweat-top though).

Yes I am a big fan of Ibex wool stuff and the full zip shak would serve you well here, but going by what you describe, I'd recommend the Wind Pro lightweight jacket.

I agree with Lisa. I love my Shak, but I got a jacket/jersey exactly as you describe, last winter. It's a Performance brand, which I rarely buy, but it's close fitting and fleecy inside, full zip with a back pocket. I have definitely worn my wind jacket over it.
The size small fit me, even though I usually wear an x-small. I think you may be about the same size as me, Shooting Star, so it might be worth it to take a look. It wasn't expensive.

Saw this jacket in the store....so much polyester....there are certain polyester jacket finishes where I just seem to sweat alot more than..even a light fleecy underneath. Guess it's the weave construction of the fabric.

I guess I can't get over my teenage years :rolleyes: when in the 1970's it was chic to wear tight polyester tops (striped), etc. Also it's a time when of course bodies begin to mature...so the sweat and smells are suddenly noticeable..

These are the 06s, black only, and I will warn you they run on the big size. I have it in small and can layer my small shak under if desired. I got the matching windpro pant (08) from TE which is also an amazing garment for those days below 40, or for multi-sport use since there is no chamois but it layers nicely over shorts or tights. It also layers nicely under my screaming yellow PI vagabound jacket/vest (size M) for visibility.

I just realized you were looking at a jacket for a man. I have the womens PI gavia jacket which is also trim and fleecy inside, and I know it also comes in men's sizes. Its not quite as warm as the shebeest jacket, but may be what you are looking for. I got it at Sierra Trading Post for a great price.
