Hey there! I'm glad I found this forum! Seems like a great place for the like-minded (ie, nutso about cycling lol) to hang.

I guess one could say that I am somewhat new to cycling; I am active and my main "sport" has been running. I've done lots of half-marathons, a couple of marathons, and a short triathlon. I love running and swimming, but have never really liked biking. However, I am planning on doing a half-ironman next September, so I am vowing to learn to love or at least like biking as well! I have been doing some city biking lately, but am planning on joining a local bike club to do more road riding.

Anyway, thanks for reading and I look forward to lots of saddle time (I think!).

Welcome to TE!

What is is about biking that you don't enjoy? Maybe we can help you resolve the issues so you have more fun on the bike.

Thanks Flur!

I don't know...I think it's just that I love running and swimming so much more than biking that it seems that biking is a drudgery. Mind you, the bikes I've had in the past weren't all that great (didn't fit well) so lack of comfort was an issue. At any rate, I have two new bikes coming (one commuter/long distance and the other a road bike) so I will have no more excuses!

I think I find cycling daunting b/c I have only biked in pretty heavy traffic. Needless to say, I have a lot to learn!

Welcome to TE:D May your new bikes help you enjoy cycling again.

If it is any consolation, I'm the one that has a hard time with running. I just don't like the constant pounding on my legs from the concrete/asphalt. In some ways I wish there was more off road or trails runs that were/are around. I think I could handle dirt much better than asphalt.

Welcome to the group!

My hat's off to you. I don't think I've ever run more than three steps at a time. Call me Shin Splints.

Yes, it's nice to have a bike that fits you but there is joy in riding any old bike whatsoever. If the expectations are that it's fun, it will be.

I look forward to hearing stories of incorporating biking into your running scheme!

Welcome to the forum from another newbie. Hope you learn to love biking as much as I have. I am so down when time, weather gets in the way of a ride.

I hear you, Sgritn.

Winters in Toronto can be brutal - the roads are just impossible. I know some hard-core bikers (like bike couriers) continue to ride, but I just can't muster up the gumption (and the courage to be quite honest!).

Welcome.

Can you please post a picture of your dogs? I love PWDs (I have 3 golden retrievers).
