I'm trying to get more psyched about a potential move to Utah (SLC). We'll know for sure in the next 2 weeks.
So is it Rockies? It's not Southwest, is it? I know it's not Northwest. How come there isn't a "Great Basin" category for Nevada, Utah, Idaho, etc?
Where are you Great Basin babes? Tell me how nice the pavement is and how polite the drivers are!

I just found a website listing bicycle guide books that included Utah in the Rocky Mountain States... Of course EVERY book listed was for mountain biking.
It's so pretty there... when it's not blazing hot or snowing. :)

Some wicked cool videos. I watch the ones of the trails I've ridden and daydream.

Yellow, I've gotten some mtbike trail books. You want to borrow them? Don't think I have any roadie stuff, but I'll look. I can also look for roadie books in June and bring them back if you want.

actually they consider Utah the SW most places. Not sure why but it seems NM, AZ, NV CO and UT are all SW. Texas of course is it's own geological location - as is California! ;)

TE forum site UT appears to be under Southwest region on your dropdown list.
My husband is from Utah, and I lived there for 4 years before we came into the foreign service and live abroad. I was not riding then. I know that they just recently passed a bill for drivers having to pass cyclist with 5 ft from them. It is cycle friendly, downtown you will need to watch for the trams they built a few years ago. I am looking forward to moving back someday and riding the National Parks tours. Sounds absolutely awesome. It is so beautiful there! Mountains in the north like Rockies and Desert in the South like AZ. I am coming home for the holidays this winter and next summer I will be staying for a year more then likely while DH goes on PCS to an ickystan place. I LOVE UTAH! So easy to find things. Streets are all based on a grid starting at the SLC Temple. 100 South., 100 N. 100 W. 100 East.
Is this a permanent move?
Bikejournal.com has some clubs in Utah for you to link to and find out more info. If you are interested in racing with other women, there is a group but not sure of their stats and attitudes. Wasatch Womens Cycling Club, WWCC, I believe is the name.

Happy for you to go live there. Envious presently, but I will get there hopefully sooner then the later. Take care and keep me posted when you find a good club to join. Tell me all about it. I am very interested in knowing what is out there, and being prepared for joining someday.
oh ya, here is a thread I found that may be of help to us. http://forums.teamestrogen.com/showthread.php?t=2030
www.bbtc.net -This group looks good...looks like they have a great time together. Very nice feeling to it from what I have seen.

Duuuuuuuuuuuhhhh. I didn't even LOOK in Southwest because it's not south and it's not "west" (at least compared to where I am now).
SK: bring your MTB books on the 8th. I suspect that we'll do more of that if we end up there. I'll need to develop some skills, since I've really only had the mountain bike for a year (I still love my skinny tires more). Brian may be in UT in June when you & Petunia are there!
The move would be as permanent as our moves are. We've been in Placerville for 12 years, but it seems shorter than that. We've never had any vision of where we "want" to be. I really love it here as I can pursue all of my loved sports easily. But most of those things are in UT also. I'll just have to relearn where-what-with whom.

Oooh so beautiful! I used to go the SLC once a year for outdoor industry trade shows and would take extra time off in order to go mountain biking in the Wasatch Mountains, there is great mountain biking! Great snow in Park City! Good luck on the move! :D
