View Full Version : Please help me pick my new pedals! :)
So I'm putting new pedals on my future commuter bike, and I'm trying to decide which ones to put on. I'm looking for a good BMX-type pedal that I'll use without toe clips or anything else, and ideally it would be blue, but could be silver instead. I'm open to suggestions, and so far I've found the Crank Bros 5050 (silver and blue) and the Wellgo B27 (silver). I've also looked at the Crank Bros Mallet pedals (07 model, in blue) which would let me clip in if I wanted to wear my cycling shoes (I have Candies on my road bike), but I'm not sure they'll work as well as the other two as regular platforms (I plan to ride in street shoes most of the time). Has anyone had any experience with any of these pedals? All suggestions and opinions are welcome.
Thanks!
Oh, BTW, here is the bike (I'll be swapping out the crankset for a compact, putting new bar tape, new bottle cages and a new saddle and seatpost):

50/50's would look good on that.
I don't think you want Mallets. They're too big and heavy.
Wellgo's are just as big but not as heavy.
But the Mallets are the only clippable ones.
I have them on my bike but we have two entirely different looking bikes.

They don't look so bad in this photo but they feel huge when I'm riding. It's easy to hit myself in the shins with them.
Do you ride clipped in to the mallets most of the time? I'll probably ride not clipped in most of the time and I don't want the pedals to be slippery or uncomfortable, but it would be really great if sometimes I could wear my cycling shoes and clip in...
I think right now I'm leaning towards the 5050s.
I don't mind if you laugh at me (I do) but I am currently riding with only my left foot clipped in :D
I'm used to Frogs and haven't quite got the eggbeaters down yet.
I had to shave down the tread a bit on my shoes to get clipped in. I like these fine clipped or unclipped. my shop guy rode them wearing flip-flops.

I have 50/50 on one bike, and Wellgos on another. (3 bikes with BMX pedals, the third set are Kona Jacksh*ts)
I really like the 50/50, they are easy to adjust (long pins, short pins, re-arrange the pins) to your liking. The color plates can be switched to all sorts of fun combinations.
I think if I were to get yet another bike (shhhh!) I'd get the 50/50 again.

+1 for Crank Bros pedals.
