Yowza. We did six miles yesterday, and I discovered Wigwam Ironman Flash Pro sox are not for me. The first 4.5 miles were fine, but towards the end, I could tell I'd slowed down. Ouch, ouch, ouch. I've discovered my Achilles tendons.

We had brunch waiting for us when we got back to the park, melons, strawberries, veggies, pretzels, yogurt, cheese. Then we had a presentation on nutrition, and a taste test of some energy drinks and bars. Yup, still hate cytomax and clif shot blocks. Jury is still out on Nuun - I like the idea of no sugar. The flavor they had for tasting was iffy -- Berry something. Clif Shot Cran-Razz electrolyte drink is still my favorite. It wasn't represented, I told a couple of my team mates I'd bring some next week for them to try.

Today my achillies tendons are still sore, along with one shin. Ratz. I'm icing right now; I may make an appointment with the foot doc that spoke to us last Wednesday for an evaluation.

I've turned in all my paperwork for Nike - I'm really excited to be doing this. Even better - I discovered the day after the 1/2 marathon, Patti Smith is playing at the Warfield -- so I'm staying in SF for a couple of extra days so I can see her.

Absolutely! I DID get them just walking the three Danskin miles and am still trying to figure out why.

What was it about your socks you didn't like?

Oh, too cool! You're doing the Nike Half? That's supposed to be a wonderful race! I tried to get in to it, but didn't make it, and after the LiveStrong challenge, my fund raising is tapped out for the year so did not want to do the TNT. I'm doing a couple centuries instead. :p WAY TO GO on the six miles!!! That's a good distance!

My achilles tendons bother me, too. Make sure you stretch your calves very well! That really helped me, as did taking one of those roller sticks and having my DH massage them. Also, if you wear heels a lot, try to start wearing flatter shoes - if you wear heels a lot your achilles doesn't get stretched like it should. Switching to flats helps. One more thing helps me - when I run, I make sure I do the full roll from heel to toe. I messed my tendon up by trying Chi Running which did not work for me - it suggests a midfoot strike. As soon as I went back to rolling through and making sure I did the full roll, I was much better.

I think they were too thick. I wanted some extra cushioning, but this was too much. I have a variety of socks to "test walk", next I think I'll try the Teko (http://www.rei.com/product/752343)

Go Snap! Go Snap!!!

My riding partner is doing the full w/TNT. (She had a baby and can't really take the time for the long rides just now, so she's doing the marathon. D'oH! Running hurts!! :D She didn't believe me when I said no double century hurts as much as a marathon. Now she does. ;)) So, anyway, now I have at least TWO people to go cheer!! I remember all the crowds cheering made a big difference when I did it. Do you think there'll be anything you'll NEED out there that I could bring for you? (You may not know the answer til you get closer, but feel free to give me any orders.) I am vascillating between the moto and the bicycle, but the bicycle is probably going to be easier to maneuver in the crowds.

Hey TNT... here's a link to RUNNING SOCK REVIEW (http://www.runnersworld.com/article/0,7120,s6-240-320--12456-1-1-2,00.html). It will give you a list to try out! The double layer Wright socks are really nice and still light. I still prefer my Balego's for any distance running or walking. But on the BC 3-Day, I take the Wright socks for the afternoon half, cuz my feet are swelling a bit by then, and the Wrights are thinner.

Try using Blister powder in your socks (ie, Blistershield) (http://www.2toms.com/products.html)

Build up those calluses. DO NOT, under any circumstances, go and get a pedicure. They take those hard-earned calluses off and you get new blisters (does that sound like experience talking?)

GOOD LUCK. You'll do great!

Thanks jes! I have a pair of Tekos, they're on the sock list. I figured I'd put the pedicure off until after the Nike -- then I demand at least a day of pampering!

I hope when you see Patti Smith that she sings "Paths that Cross" for you. I hope you hear it in your mind & heart as your walking. :)

2 pairs of Balega's on their way! A pair of the X-Athlete and a pair of the Running model. If they shrink too much in the wash, I'll get you medjums and we'll swaparoo.
