Soo....

Swim - uneventful, for once I didn't wonder why it wasn't ending. The mindset learned from RnR was good - I'm just going for a longish swim. I peed into my wetsuit... I came home and gave it a real good rinse but I was neeeervous. I veer to my left, it's awful. I'm sure I swam a bunch more than I needed to.
long transition. we had to run like 250 meters.

Bike - the course has two longish climbs of which one is not steep at all. went well, I just span (spun? spinned?) up the two hills, I'm glad I'm more of a roadie than a triathlete because most suck at hills. Had a few passing battles, never got away from those girls but anyway. I managed almost a 30 kph average. Very happy. The altitude vacation helped loads, probably more the climbing than the altitude.
got an aero bottle yesterday, bit of an insult to the eye but practical.

Run - excellent transition; I had knots in my shoes (againN!!) BUT they were loose enough just to slip in. Then it started. I really had over-revved the engine on the bike and I paid for it. I got ever slower, legs heavy as lead, every little incline hurt. I really ran out of fuel. But even downing another gel, which I didn't have, would probably not have been the ticket - I had a knot in my stomach towards the end of the bike from digesting 3 gels since 15 minutes from the start.

But knowing I would make it in sub-3h made me go on.
Also, remembering form made it a little easier for a while before it started to hurt again. In fact I kept telling myself as long as I am not in outright physical pain, I can't stop running. I didn't even get side stitches.

I cried a little in the arms of my club mate in the finish zone. We got a medal. Hope it's useful as a bottle opener. Picked up boyfriend, he finished in 2:44 and change. Had a beer and a sausage after all the gooey sweet crap. Oh yikes, they handed out powerade. Horrible. I switched to Cola&Water.

2:55.23,0 35/56 AG, 94/146 overall. As expected, the competition at an Oly is quite a different animal.
swim 33.25 31. - DBF although fretting took 2 minutes off me!!
T1 1.59 14.
bike 1:22.33 29.
T2 1.13 6. (!)
run 56.11 47. (!) - thought I went up to 6:30-7 minute km's towards the end, but looks like I did better than my own calculations.
Considering I only ran 10K 3x before this, I'm OK.

Yayayay, I did an Oly.......

oh and I discovered the space between my boobs as universal storage place, how fun.

Oh - how about average HR: 174 .... oops :o

mmmm.... p.s. - Natascha Badmann won the short distance. She's not all ok on the swim yet, she said it was very hard, but she's making her way back.

Congrats, alpinerabbit! You did better than just surviving. ;)

My mother in law was using her Built-In Infinite Storage to store her cell phone last weekend... use what you got ;)

Good work! I have yet to summon the courage to complete an Oly.

My space I call "The Great Divide." Nothing can be stored there!:D

GREAT JOB in coming in under 3 hours! What a huge accomplishment! Congratulations!

Oh yeah, I found that 2 Gu's fit perfectly in my clevage, in my tri top. I can carry a total of 4 Gu's on me with my tri top pockets. ;)

Whoo hooo!! Congrats! You had some great times!!! If that's a bad run time for you, don't feel bad, mine would be much slower.

I love the boob storage place, I keep my epipen in there.

Great job! I know I could never do that!

Great tips on the new storage compartments! I may just have a bit of space in there since I don't have much else to fill up the sports bra!

:-) it's not like my storage space is infinite. but a gel+a bar and even a sponge or sunglasses fit.
I had pieces of powerbar stuck there afterwards. What an experience.

Smilie, I would say you can. Unless you have no arms and no legs which you don't seem to have (or rather not to have), based on your profile pic. 4 years ago i would have said "can't" too.... You've done a century...

Great job rabbit!

KG... I can barely make room for my Epi-Pen in my freakin' seat pack...

I can't fit in my seatpack very well - that's why I carry it in my short. Also, I don't want to dig it out when I switch from bike to run. (As for the swim, I live dangerously and hope I don't get stung)

I think you look good!
All the pics of me coming out of the water: I'm PALE and even look like I'm crying in a couple! Funny.
Great stuff.

Great race alpinerabbit, 2:55, have done 5 olys and not down to that yet!
let me tell you they may not admit it, but almost EVERYONE pees in their wetsuit.
as a californian who windsurfed for a good while and tried to surf, they TAUGHT us to pee in the wetsuit...what, are you gonna swim in from the waves get on shore, park the equipment, take off the wet suit and go pee, COME ON!
by the time you finish the swim it is already totally rinsed:)

well the race was last year, but I only got the pics now.

oj oj oj, this year I am just signed up for 3 Olys.... no Sprints planned. I don't think I can go for the HIM because of the run.

Alpine, congratulations! Your story is inspiring, for sure. How long have you been training for this?

Noob questions: What's an oly? Is that an Olympic-length triathlon? What are the distances?

What is HIM?

Thanks!

Thank you, Tribogata. I'm guessing the full Iron Man is twice that distance, then? Now that's a goal to work for, yes?

How many of you have done HIMs? Full Iron Mans?

thanks Alpine - as you know we all love pictures here!

That really is an awesome time! you have worked hard to get there.

I was giving up on my dream to do an Oly by next summer now you have inspired me to keep trying (or should I say tri-ing :D
