This is one of those "where does it fit?" Threads. But I had to share the exciting news!

I spent the weekend with my 5 year old, watching and holding my breath as she learned how to ride her 2 wheeler! More times than I can count, I had to jam my hands in my pockets and let her lose her balance, while she worked to figure it out!

Last week we were on vacation in Cape Cod and rented a "tag-a-long" bike for her. She spent every day on the bike with DH. When asked her favorite part of the vacation, she answered "bike riding". All week her balance and confidence grew, so when we came home, we took the training wheels off her red "hot wheels" bike. By yesterday morning, she was cruising up and down the block!

I'm so proud of her, and she's so happy. The best part was when she got up some speed and shouted back to me "I feel the wind on my face!!". I think I might have a future riding partner:D

Oh how I remember those fun days with the kids just learning to ride. I wish I could get my 17.5 year old daughter to ride with me now. My 19 year old son will every once in awhile take a ride with me on the mountain bikes. I have to laugh a little about 3 months ago my 21 year old son took a ride to a local restaurant with us because we told him we would buy him lunch. The poor kid was so tired from the 20 miles. This is a kid who plays baseball/basketball at college. LOL. When we were at the restaurant he wanted to call his sister to come get him and the bike but we shamed him into staying and riding back with us. Enjoy her!

I'm totally with you Iris. I had that experience with my 5-yr-old daughter about a month or so ago. She totally loves it. One of the cutest things out of her mouth soon after she got the hang of it: "Mom, now we can go on a family bike ride -- ALL of us!" My smile was a mile wide. :D

But now when she asks to go outside to ride her bike, and it's sometimes totally the wrong time (almost dinner, etc.), and I have to tell her no. That's the pits, lemme tell ya. :(

Congrats Iris! :)

I remember however many years ago that exact feeling that I had when i took my first few peddles on my big sisters bike (she didn't have training wheels). It was such a wonderful feeling, and I still get that wonderful feeling everytime I clip in and push off! (unfortunately, I was in a car accident a little while ago and haven't been able to ride in about a month due to back problems) yay for kids riding!

I don't have kids but a couple of days ago I saw a tiny little guy riding down my street with his dad. I had to ask. The kid was THREE!!!!!! No training wheels!!!!! I think the diameter of his bike wheels was less than 12 inches. He was fully geared up though. Helmet, "bike" shorts and a pair of red winter gloves with the fingers cut off. Gosh darn he was a cutie!
