View Full Version : A saddle like the Aspide Glamour?

I have the SSM Women's Aspide Glamour:

http://www.trisports.com/sesanmaasglr.html

Everything is right about it - except at like mile 40 yesterday the labels started to totally dig into me... after about 5 more miles, they felt like razors!

The size and shape is very comfortable - but I'm foreseeing some issues with those labels on longer rides. So I'm trying to see if there is something out there with similar characteristics - narrow nose, no cut out, more of a T-shape... in the 155mm range.

Any ideas?

Take a razor blade and slice the threads holding the labels on, and rip them off of there?

Who needs labels anyway?

Seam ripper?

Tiny cuticle scissors?

Huh, I didn't think of that... has anyone ripped those suckers off before??

Stop by a Joann's or Hancock's or other fabric store and get a seam ripper. Assuming the labels are sewn on, it's the best way to remove them without adding a hole. Since it's not realy ridable this way, what do you have to loose?

I'll have to look at mine when I get home tonight, but I thought that the labels were embroidered directly on the saddle?

I honestly can't remember.

It looked to me from the pics that there was a border around it, as if it were a patch.

If you're afraid of destroying the saddle by removing the patches, maybe you could try covering them over? If you used a vinyl-covered tape or electricians tape, I wonder if smoothing over the stitching would provide relief?

If all else fails, I believe the 2008 model of the Glamour has a smooth cover with the logos screened or however they do that, where it's just part of the saddle with no need for stitching.

I just found a picture of the model with no stitching.

That's it! That's what mine looks like, except in black. The logos are embossed and printed. FWIW, I bought it in April 2008 from Performance- maybe they still have the embossed version?

Is this what you got by any chance?
http://www.performancebike.com/shop/Profile.cfm?SKU=25280&item=50-7104&slitrk=search&slisearch=true

It's like $50 more than the label version... is there some other difference?

It also seems like it's much more narrow at 5.1" than the one I currently have.

I can't seem to find anything else listed on Performance without the labels. Off to look elsewhere....

That's the men's version....and I can't understand why it's $50 more  Mine was definitely the women's version, with embossed labels, and was only $100. I bought it at my local Perfomance store...maybe that's the difference between labels and no labels?

Yeah, I saw it wasn't womens... but why so expensive?

Has anyone tried the FX version?

http://www.wekeepyoucycling.com/en/showproduct.aspx?productid=114

Or the tri-gel?

http://www.cbike.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=350

I haven't explored the removing labels aspect, but since it's a new (1 month) saddle, I could still re-sell it if needed (disclosing the potential razorlike feeling of course :p )

Hi, do you need it 155 wide or it's just because the Aspide Glamour comes in that measurement? The reason ask is that the carbon version could solve the problem (no embossed labels of course :D), but it's narrower than the one you have. Maybe you could find a shop that has it and lets you test-ride it...
Good luck!

I measured the good ol' sit bones, and determined I need a 155mm (which is why I ended up with the Aspide!).

My local shop doesn't have any Aspides, unfortunately. :( I haven't ventured out to look elsewhere locally though.

Ooops, so no, the sitbones would not like the aspide carbon then :(
I guess the best bet is trying to find the model with the decal instead of the embossing...

Thanks. The only things I'm finding unlabeled are the FX or triath-gel... and the men's versions!

It's like an internet shopping challenge. Something to do while the olympics are on, I guess. :p

OK, I found this:
http://www.bikesomewhere.com/bikesomewhere.cfm/product/25/1704/14793

But it's $60 more? And it's not the Glamour, though I don't know the difference between the two...

i love mens saddles - work much better for me both in mountain and road versions - dont just write them off - see if you can test ride...

Nashbar.com is where I found the picture of the saddle minus patches. I think it was listed at $109, and they offer all three colors - black, white and pink.

Ah. I tried Nashbar, and that's the men's '08 saddle - and that's way too narrow. It appears they only have the women's in the '07 version. Drat.

No, the one in the picture is the Aspide Glamour - "Glamour" making it the women's not the men's.

From Nashbar.com: "Selle San Marco has a biomechanically optimal saddle for you. The Women's San Marco Aspide Glamour allows you to decide your size based on your weight and body type. Lorica cover and titanium rails. 190g."

Item No. » SM-ASPG

I was wrong in that the pink is not offered, just black or white.

Contact the manufacturer and tell them about how the raised seams are hurting you. I bet they'll offer to exchange it for a smooth model for free.

Found it! I totally got distracted because the men's is listed as the "'08" in the description, the women's wasn't... so I just assumed it was the old version...

WHOO!
