View Full Version : NEW PUPPY! TE, meet my new bike guard...

Since all of you wonderful souls here on TE have been so supportive about the loss of my past bike guardian, I thought you might like to meet my future bike watch dog:cool:.
This is Roxy. She is an 8wk old black labrador retriever. Tiny lil Roxy doesn't look like she could scare off any bike thieves at this point, though she sure did A LOT  of barking in her crate last night missing her littermates:rolleyes:.
http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/gg230/rotarydial/IMG_2108.jpg
Roxy had fun checking out her toy supply and new home yesterday.
http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/gg230/rotarydial/IMG_2121.jpg
Then Roxy decided it was time to pass out on the patio for a nap.
I have my happy smiling moments about my yellow girl, and at other times, I still want to cry. But, everyone agreed that the house just was't the same without the pitter patter of paws:(. Nothing could take the place my yellow girl holds in my heart. I'm sure in time, Roxy will hold a special spot of her own.
Now, we just have to work on that big dog bike protection bark ;). Thanks for letting me share:).

We need puppies for foreign diplomats. With a face like that there would never be another argument and world peace would reign. Everyone would just be saying, "Awwwwwwwwww."
Beautiful puppy! Congrats.

My husband and I lost our first (together) adopted kitty and were fostering 3 by the end of the week. We couldn't stand not having anyone in the house with us. We still have two of the ones we fostered. At the moment we have two "puppies" (they're grown but they don't know that) and four cats. He keeps telling me we're at capacity but I'm looking for a bigger house so I can talk him into adopting just one more:p
Congratulations on your new baby!!!

I never got to see my rescue mutt as a puppy. I imagine she could have looked a little like this, 'cept yellow, and a tad chubbier, and .... enjoy the puppy breath. :D

How incredibly cute! Have fun!
She is delightful!
I'm biased toward black dogs but she looks like she is very sweet.
Our family dog was the runt of the litter and was very timid until puberty and then she became very dominant toward other dogs/strangers. She was not proactively aggressive but she had major alpha dog issues. She would dominate almost any dog in her yard, even if they were bigger.
She did not, however, show aggression toward any of our family and we could easily take away her food, etc.
So she may end up to be a lovable but good guardian!

I spent about 6 weeks without the companionship of a canine after my Shadow passed. I still miss him but newly adopted Jasmine is a wonderful girl!

Oh, how sweet!
I lasted about 3-4 weeks after I lost my best friend Tango. I needed a dog around, so I adopted a puppy from the local shelter. She was so cute she made my heart ache! I actually felt guilt about it! Now that she's an adult dog (kind of ), I realize how incredibly different she is than Tango and I've found that there is plenty of space in my heart to love both dogs in different ways. May Roxy find her space in yours very soon. :)

Roxy is SOOO cute!
I must confess that I compared a certain Project Manager at the office to a Lab puppy today. Roxy is cuter, and probably wouldn't make me spend over an hour on the phone undoing the mess...
Anything that cute couldn't possibly create as much havoc. ;)

That's one fierce looking guard there!
Actually, any thief who came to take your bike would probably be overcome by the soft ears and just get lost in them until you had time to call the police and get them there. Could be very effective!

Thx for all those welcomes for Roxy and the well wishes:)! As a couple of you puppy lovers asked, here's a couple more pics of the little Diva (one of my new nicknames for her mischief side:rolleyes:).

Roxy was very interested in this recent mail order delivery at my house... Roxy seemed to be saying, "Oooo (sniff, sniff)... is that leather I smell, mom? Goodie! A new chew toy for me! ".
http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/gg230/rotarydial/IMG_2147.jpg
"...but WHAT?!?! ...it's not for me??? That Brooks thingy looks super yummy!" (btw, sorry for blur, it was hard to rescue the Brooks and shoot the pic at the same time!)
http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/gg230/rotarydial/IMG_2106.jpg
"...well, alright, if you insist, mom... guess I'll chew this other thing... for now anyway (fur-mommy senses a puppy plot  in the works and stows Brooks order up VERY high!;))."
Ooh, that last pic looks like Roxy definitely has something up her sleeve! :p

Glad you enjoyed them:). I have many pics I took, of course, but thought I'd better contain myself and not be a megapixel hog:rolleyes:. However, I thought the Brooks eating plot was funny in an, "omg, nooooo" cycling joke sorta way. Makes it a bit more legal... how's that for sick rationalization lol :p.

Do you mean this sweet little face? Roxy is saying here: "Oh no:rolleyes:, I wasn't trying to eat the building blocks, really!:p". This little black dog is the devil lol! Well, ok:o... she's ALL puppy. Full of energy, into everything, etc. Guess doggie mom's forget a lot when you haven't had a baby in a while.

This is the full view of how big she has gotten. Six mos old now. She was in the 40#s last vet appt. Bet she's about 50# now. She goes in for her spay surgery next week. I worry about the anth risk, but know all should go fine. It's funny. With my yellow lab (almost white coat) that passed, she matched the white carpet. So I was in lab shedding ignorant bliss. Now, there's no hiding the black hair. But, her coat is so pretty. Roxy's beautiful raven coat shines like a piece of silk:cool:. Or maybe even on this forum we could say like fine quality bike shorts:D.

Roxy's coat looks so beautifully glossy, I think her middle name should be 'Raven'.
My goodness, she certainly has grown.
Made me really smile seeing these pics. :)

Look at the paws on that girl! As you know, she will be "all puppy" until she's at least three. My Maeve (golden retriever) is 8.5 and is still as active as a puppy.
I stressed out each time one of my goldens was spayed. Only one of them didn't have to go back for a "stitch check" due to licking, too much activity, etc.
There are greater health risks---cancer---if you don't get her fixed.
Make sure you get the pre-surgery bloodwork.

ha, I didn't realize this thread was started in August, and couldn't believe how much she'd grown in a couple of days!!
I long for a dog to replace the one that just died in October, but I'm enjoying the respite from having to take him out at 6:30am and again right after work, and a couple more times before bed (when he was getting really old). I sleep so much better and my place is so much cleaner, but I just got his rug back from the cleaners yesterday and made me miss him all over again. So, not ready yet.
Congratulations on Roxy, she's looking so healthy and beautiful!

After our 12 year old chocolate lab passed away, we got a yellow lab pup. I remember how hard it was to go from an old mellow lab to a energetic puppy. You forget about all of the puppy stuff.
Just saw Marley and Me on Friday, brought back memories of our old lab and lots and lots of tears. Its a good movie for anyone going through the terrible puppy years. Makes you want to go home and hug your pup (no matter what they just chewed).
Roxy is very cute! Thanks so much for sharing.

I don't think I can ever watch Marley and Me. Even when I was browsing through the pages at a bookstore last year I was tearing up. Not sure how they handled his death in the movie, but I know I'll be one big sobbing mess, so I don't think I can watch it.
I'm sure anyone who's ever had the pleasure of caring for a dog can write a book of goofy things the dogs have done; they all have such amazing, unique personalities
