I know there have been threads on it but simply, how do you like it?
My husband and I were thinking of one since we enjoy hiking and cell coverage gets spotty. Plus out in parts of Texas there is no cell coverage, so bike rides can easily get us out of coverage within 20 miles of my house. It seems pretty reasonable after you buy the unit. I just wanted to know if anyone has any negative thing to say?

I have one and use it primarily for long solo rides. I took it with me to the area state parks to test it. For some reason the Spot gave incomplete data of my whereabouts in one of the parks. I don't know if it's because of the trees or what but I remembered that the instructions read to move to an open area or field if you are in a wooded area and I tried that and it still didn't send the info to hubby. Funny thing was I had cell coverage during that time and called hubby to check and see if he was able to track me.
The Spot is a good tool to have if you are offering sag support. I tracked hubby and friend's ride via computer and noticed that he had slowed considerably on his ride. I headed out to retrieve him and he was relieved to have the car available.
If you get one, before heading out on your ride, turn it on for about 10 minutes prior to the ride so that there's a good satellite signal. Then let your friends enjoy watching your journey.

I have one and used it for long solo drives through the mountains in the winter. I've sent "OK" messages to jobob since she was on the ground and expecting to meet me. Hubby got them too but he was flying. I have no idea what their messages looked like. I expect to use it more when hubby takes off on more fishing trips and I'm left to my own devices.
I haven't used it in tracking mode, but having the ability to periodically send "OK" messages was good peace of mind for all during the winter. I wished I'd had it earlier in the winter for other solo drives in the back of beyond.

I wish I had one for my race last weekend. I was too fast :p and Thom didn't get to see me and take pictures on the road. We think he was about about 5 minutes too late. Next time.
