View Full Version : Saddle rocking back and forth

So my once comfortable saddle became quite uncomfortable this weekend... I looked at it after friday's ride and realized it wasn't in the slightly tilted down position like I had it before. Odd! So I readjusted it and off I went for today's ride with my girlie bits much happier.

Within a few miles, I could tell it slipped right back. I pressed on the nose, and it moved back to where I need it, but it won't stay there.

My husband took a shot at tightening the seat bolt, but that did nothing to stop the back-forth issue.

Any ideas??

You might need a new seat post. :(

Oy... the bike is only 3 months old! :(

Today's ride the saddle creaked the entire time. Everytime I sat back down, creeeaaaakkkk. Totally annoying!

If it's only 3 months old take it back to the shop you got it from and have them fix or replace it. It ought to be covered.

Yep - it should be covered. I have this problem on the back of the tandem and on my Bike Friday. I have a seatpost slipping down problem on my Trek 520. I was starting to think it was just me:(

If the top of the seat post - where the saddle attaches - is plastic or composite, then you can easily strip the top part, rendering the seat post useless. Change to a seat post that has a metal top part.

Yeah, it's plastic. Oy. I brought it in to the LBS and he says he think he's fixed it. I gave it a shake at the store, and it seems ok, but I'll have to see how it is on the ride into work tomorrow!

Same problem - my seat clamp is metal though. Drives me nuts. At least I finally got it where the range of motion is very small and I can deal with BOTH positions. I would like to be able to adjust my seat and have it stay, but have been too lazy to drag my bike into the city a hundred miles away to have the bike shop look at it. I actually just thought they would think I'm nuts or just too wimpy to tight the bolt or something. Okay, I have no idea why I feel weird taking it the bike in for that:confused:. Though they will think I'm nuts for trying the Brooks saddle. They advised against it.

So yep, it's still rocking.

I took the saddle off and it does look like the top of the seat post has been stripped (and it seems like it's metal where it's worn down).
