Well, I got the warranty confirmation and a satisfactory discount, so I accepted the frame with the two touched up paint chips.
So, the newest addition to our stable:

And it's light - weighing in at 16.2 pounds:

Other pics that Silver thought were appropropriate of the components:
Bontrager RaceXLite 50/34 Crank and DuraAce Derailleur (http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa201/MrSilver1963/102_1116.jpg)
DuraAce Rear Derailleur with my existing RaceXLite Wheels and Vittoria Corsa tires (http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa201/MrSilver1963/102_1115.jpg)
Only problem is my left cleat won't lock in...so back to the LBS for more cleats tomorrow.

oooh, very nice. I'm sorry I missed the posts of what the bike is? I think it is an 09 madone? Am I in the ballpark?
love the aero seat post :)

Gorgeous, Mr. S! Congratulations! May you share many happy miles together.:)
For some reason I didn't realize the 5.5 came with a compact crank - I just assumed a standard double.

Gorgeous bike, Mr. S. You must be so excited!!! :D
Hey you are really looking UBER SLEEK these days! I remember some of your older photos and what a difference. I got a kick out of reading your early weight loss blog entries.....all those South Beach diet bars!  I'm guessing you have improved in the nutrition dept. since then. No more egg whites with VELVEETA, hhmmmmmm? ;) :D
Lovely bike.

tygab: It's a '08 Madone 5.5. I had a few dilemmas:
Get it or not? Fearing a huge '09 price increase:eek:, I did
Where to get it? We have two LBS's that we're loyal to
Get the 5.2 or 5.5? The 5.2 is not available in my short size:o...would it become available? maybe...but if it doesn't, it puts me back in the price increase dilemma...
When it arrived yesterday, it had two chips in the paint:mad:...should I get them to send a new frame or get a discount? I chose the discount...so between an LBS sale event and the discount, my cost is closer to a 5.2 price:Dand this makes Mr. Silver a very happy boy:D
Both the bike and the cyclist look very sleek! Congratulations and many happy moments together (along with Silver of course).

Thanks Lisa. I feel great ttt!
I'm not losing weight, but I'm losing inches. I'm eating 7 meals a day to fuel my rides, but in the fall, I'm confident that I'll kick in weight loss again. Today I'm at 165...next July I want to be 152 (Remember...I'm only 5'7"ish)

Let us know how it rides!

Bike candy! You'll have to look for matching tires too!
I have to ask. There have been many discussions about how much women hate the stock Bontrager saddles. How is yours?

Mr. Silver, what a great new bike.:p Thanks for the pic of you and your bike. A bike looks lonely without a rider nearby.

Nope, Silver only works with silver (which means that technically, she's a "goldsmith" because a "silversmith" makes hollowware:rolleyes:

Inaugural ride:
Smokin'!
I bested my personal best on the Tri-Course by 6.25% on my first ride. Last year, my PB was 19.1 mph with drafting; a couple months ago, I bested this at 19.2mph and today I did 20.5mph in windier, hotter, more humid conditions!
I was disappointed with the DuraAce shifters, but a trip to the LBS fixed that and they started to take on "slicing butter" attributes.
The left DuraAce pedal wouldn't lock, so I rode with one DuraAce and one 105...again, a trip to the LBS fixed that.
The guys at the LBS were ecstatic to hear about my speed improvement!
I do have a little discomfort in the minor rhomboids...I'm hoping that's just a matter of getting used to the new geometry...

No problems so far...it's less padded than my last saddle. I did slide it back a bit last night. Today, I did 50 miles without any problems, but I was starting to wonder if I could go 100 miles on it...

Just like the Garmin...eh?
Congrats on the new ride and your weight loss! And it's always nice when a new purchase is validated by an increased performance (did the bike make you go faster, or did you just ride better because you were happy to have a new bike?:p) Wishing you many happy miles!

Here's the way I looked at it:
First, I was surprised that my LeMond only weighed 19.4 pounds (combined with me at 165 pounds...184.4 pounds). The Trek is 16.2 pounds so I gained about 1.7% combined weight reduction. I previously thought it weighted 21 pounds...hmmm
So, I suspect that 1.7% is weight reduction (how's that for a dieting incentive) and the balance is technology. I don't attribute any at all to me...I was actually apprehensive setting out on this ride because I was so satisfied with my LeMond Reno...:o

LOL ...that's exactly right!
However..in my defense..I DID need a computer since I'd sold the PowerTap. hee hee..
another one falls to the price increase panic!!!! but seeing you with your new bike, and hearing your weight loss story makes me uber happy.
i fell too...although it is for Mr elk.

Mr. Silver, congrats on the new ride. It's purty. I'm of two minds about this though. While I'm happy for you, I'm sad for me b/c I likely won't be able to keep up with you at the Horsey next year! :(
Enjoy the new bike! May you have many safe and fun miles on it!

Well, I'm currently planning to swap steel for Ti. I'm set to begin the fit process this October. More than likely, it'll be a Moots. Something still tells me, especially after your awesome ride at RAIN, that I still won't be able to keep up!

So Mr. S......how is your bike feeling when you ride it?? Tell us about the difference between it and your old bike. Can you tell yet, or is your body still adjusting?
(I know for me it took about 250 miles on my new bike before I could tell if it fit perfectly, since my body kept adjusting to it and we had some derailleur tweaking to do, etc.)
Mr. Bloom
08-06-2008, 05:15 PM
Kate, I don't buy it...you're a STRONG rider!
Lisa, I do like it a lot, but I am still adjusting:
Compact Double: I need to do more pre-planning on my shifting as I hit hills. With my triple, I could get finer adjustments just with the chain ring...now I have to be more aware
Front Derailleur: Still needs adjusting, so I'm not getting consistent "like slicing butter" benefit in the shifting with DuraAce
Shoulders: not quite perfect yet - getting a little rhomboid discomfort; may need to flip the stem and/or adjust the handlebars or get a longer stem
Seat: There's a new design on the Madone and I'm having trouble keeping it tight (and a friend who just got a Madone 6.9 has the same problem as well); twice on Sunday, my seat did a wheelie...but my bike didn't...
I have done some of my "favorite hills" in Bloomington this week - 10%+ grades - and I'm still holding a pace that is 7% to 10% better than my previous averages on the same route.
