Perhaps I'm nutty, but I just had to try out the Sheila Moon ballet skirt and the bolero in "groovy blue":

If I wear a black tank top and my black knickers or Terry long shorts, it might work.
Hmmm....now we'll just have to see if they are made for women with actual ....hips.
Besides, the TE 10% off coupon was just enough to push me over the edge. :(

those colors will look nice on you! For me it would be a bit much but you could get away with it on your Ramboullet. Not sure about your honey bike though

I love that pattern but I didn't like the fit of the Sheila Moon bolero I tried a couple of years ago (if they are still the same).
I agree that would coordinate nicely with your Ramboullet!
I'm still trying to decide what I want to spend my 10% on....I'm thinking Ibex knickers and maybe the cute biking skort that was pictured in the email. :)

Heck I was thinking of my everyday type of capris and stuff too! I often wear short skirts over black leggings as everyday wear. Plus, they'd be pretty cool for the roller rink. :D

Update:
They arrived, and they are really CUTE! I always liked how they looked but was afraid to try them.
As is typical for my pear shape....the large bolero top and the XL skirt fit me just right. I actually 'could' have kept the medium top and the Large skirt instead, they did fit me pretty well too- but I figured it was better to have a bit of extra room for when I'm dancing the watusi or the pony. ;) :D
I really like them over my usual black knickers and black top, so much so that I ordered another set in another color! (had to order those from Sheila Moon directly though, TE only had the one color skirt left.)
These are very grooooovy.....can't wait to wear them around. :p
(ok so why is it that I am a pretty average sized woman, not tall or overweight, and yet I always seem to have to get 'XL' pants and shorts and skirts???- what's up with that?? Not everyone is built like a 15 year old!)
I bet that looks great.
It's been added to my wish list.

So, I've been wearing my Sheila Moon "groovy blue" skirt and bolero for like 5 days in a row now...they're just too much fun to take off. :)
Here's a couple of pix I forced my DH to take this afternoon:

I can't think of anyone who would look better in them! Really cute.

Those are cute. I've been coveting one of those ballet skirts, but now that I'm only wearing hi-viz jerseys, I can't bear to think how they would clash :eek:

I wouldn't mind one of those ballet skirts to wear over regular leggings. Let's see, I can hear them already when I go to class at Lesley University:
"Who is that old woman in the flowery skirt? And leggings? She wants to be a psychologist????"
Seriously, I bought a Sheila Moon bolero a couple of years ago and I eventually threw it out. It bunched in the shoulders and the sleeves were still on the verge of being too long, in the extra small. The Terry one in the s/m fits me perfectly.
Off to investigate the Sheila Moon site.

I have the ballet skirt in the "Hibiscus blue" color as well- and it will definitely go with my screaming yellow hi-vis tops pretty well I think. I imagine the Hibiscus Orange print would go well with hi-vis yellow too. The two hibiscus prints are large prints, but because the skirts are mesh-y and somewhat see-through, the effect is subtle. I like how they flutter in the breeze.

They look great on you :)! Thx for modeling that... I wondered how the SM fit compared to the Terry bolero. Maybe they should send you a discount for being such a good model;).

Thanks! :)
Actually, I tend to dress like this for everyday as well (a benefit of being self-employed). I like to wear wool and/or things that let me move and stretch.
I also like being able to hop on my bike into town for errands without changing clothes. If I'm doing a long ride over 10 miles then yes I put on bike shorts with good chamois and usually a good dose of a hi-vis yellow item mixed in somewhere.
In these photos I was wearing my favorite Terry "Spinnaker" knickers (with such a thin cotton chamois that I can wear them for everyday on or off my bike), and a black Smartwool thin merino tank top under the bolero. It was only about 70 degrees yesterday!
Today it started out at 65 when we started riding, to high of 80 by the end- we rode 35 miles/ 3 1/2 hours, so I wore my Brooks Nightlife Hi-vis yellow tank top with the bolero (still showed a nice big screaming yellow portion front and back because the bolero is quite short), and some black bike shorts with a good chamois. The bolero kept my arms from freezing early in the ride, kept me from getting sunburned, and later I just pushed the sleeves up as things warmed up. If I really got hot I could have taken the bolero off and kept my hi-vis tank top on alone. But I never got too hot today.
I probably won't wear the skirts on any long rides, just the bumming around errand rides and also plain daily wear. I will likely wear the skirts to the roller rink too, thus covering over my padded 'crash' shorts with the odd looking tailbone protection and hip protection pads.
Even though it looks somewhat frivolous, this is actually a very practical set of clothes for me.
though I'm used to wearing short skirts with leggings, the whole bolero thing is totally new to me.
Now I am interested in hearing about others' experiences with the Terry boleros....and any pictures of you all in them?

Having just started cycling this year, I thought cycling gear "had" to be black nix and jersey. It is so exciting to see some of the options that are out there - and that would certainly suit me much more than 100% lycra. I will have to search out whether we can get these in Oz or whether I will have to order from overseas. The credit card is starting to cry already:)

Lisa, I have to admit that I haven't found the right weather situation for the bolero. I just usually opt for the arm warmers, because you can push them down while riding, but I would have to stop to take off the bolero. I got hot very easily.
I wore the bolero twice while commuting to work. It was abnormally hot for 6 AM, around 61 degrees both times and humid. I had a vest on over the bolero, which came off after the first 2miles of downhill. After about 7 miles, I had to take the bolero off, but I put the vest back on for awhile over my ss jersey. Then I ended up taking it off at mile 11 (of a 13.8 mile ride). It was very annoying to have to stop. I will try it out again in the fall. But it fits perfectly.

Crankin, we all have our different internal temp regulators and different riding styles, terrain, etc.
I can see how you would be annoyed at wearing a bolero under your circumstances. As for me, I like to stop and have a cool shady drink and make clothing changes during my rides- so for me this issue is not a problem.
Knowing you and how you look and how petite you are, I would think you would look very cute wearing your bolero over a black tank top just as 'fun wear' on your days off. :) (i can 'so' see you in the little skirt too, but I won't push my luck here)

Can't round up a photo at the moment, but I have the basic black Terry bolero. It is fantastic! Sleeves are a bit long on me (I wear petite sizes in general), but that's okay. It's fleecy inside and very comfy. I love it wearing it starting out on a chilly ride that warms up along the way. No worries about the sleeves falling down as sometimes occurs with arm warmers. Highly recommended!

I have thought of wearing the bolero with other slightly funky looking sporty type clothes. And yes, the skirt does appeal to me. But I keep thinking I am too old... however I don't think anyone in Cambridge will be looking at me as they might here in the suburbs. I could not wear a get up like that as a middle school teacher, but as a student, I am free of all of those constraints.
I actually do like to stop on my regular rides and I am not such an animal rider, as you think, Lisa! It's just that I was on my way to work, so it was annoying.
Emily, I had trouble with arm warmers, too, until I bought the Terry ones in the x/small/small size. Voila! They stay up.

Having seen a recently shared photo of you, I DON'T think you're too old to wear it - you (and Lisa) look GREAT! You're such an inspiration!

I have a couple of the Terry boleros. I have the thicker one that is kind of fleecy on the inside (sounds like the same one that Emily has) and I have the 'light' one that is of a thinner material. The light verson is closer in weight to the Sheila Moon one, but it's definitely a different fabric.
I wear mine often. The thicker one is great for converting SS jerseys to LS ones for winter riding (under jackets). The light one is great for spring or fall rides where it's cold in the am but warms up, because it's smaller when rolled up and easily fits in a jersey pocket. I also like it in combination with a wind vest for mountain riding where the temps and weather are so variable.
It is a great piece to have for mountain descents when it's hot on the way up but chilly on the way down. This is a photo of me wearing it in just such a situation. I'd only just finished tossing it on when this photo was taken, so it's not 'arranged' just right yet. ;) The Terry one has less 'body' material than the Sheila Moon one - so I thought it fit better under jackets and vests. The Sheila Moon one felt more like a bolero jacket and less like an 'extended arm warmer'...if that makes any sense.

Ok, I was thrilled to discover that TE has gotten a new batch of Sheila Moon super groovy color choices in !
I love my SheilaMoon last year's gauze-y 'ballet skirts' so much and have been wearing them (both with my SM boleros and without) a LOT this past year...not just for biking at all. Now they are apparently called "go go skirts" same thing....but I just ordered the two new wacky Laugh-in patterns: "pink highball" and "sky cosmo" skirts plus a matching sky cosmo bolero.
I feel like Goldy Hawn! :D
One of these days I'm going to break down and get one of those skirts. I would be perfect with my tiara.
