Do your doggies do any odd stuff?

Do your doggies do any odd stuff?

Paisley, our six-month old Boston Terrier puppy, races into the kitchen whenever we fire up the Vita-mix or ice dispenser in the refrigerator door. She jumps, on all four legs at once, as high as she can to get to the source of the sound, very excited.

I guess she wants to try a margarita! :D

When Chloe was younger, before she had puppies, she would lie on her back with a toy and chew it, at the same time making a sing-song sound.

She also does the "bone dance". When she gets something other than her usual dog cookie, she runs into another room, drops it, then proceeds to dance around it. Wrinkling her nose, bowing down, circling the new treat. Then she wolfs it down...

But the first thing I think of is our Australian Shepherd mix. He has a very short tail (we think natural bob). So, he can't chase his tail.

But, he has fantastic butt fluff, kind of like a bussle.

He loves to grabs it and chase it. Round and round!

When he walks, he struts, and his butt fluff swings back and forth like a kilt. I think he may be a Scottish Shepherd!

Butt fluff! That reminds me, Chloe has no tail - she also has the silliest looking hackles. When she gets riled up and raises her hackles, all that stands up is a puffy section on her butt. We call it the Powder Puff of Death.

Oh, I'm laughing so hard at those pictures!!

All the bread/buns/rolls in the bread basket were stolen from the countertop two days ago, and they had a great time playing tug o war with the wrappers and eating it all up. Then they got the bag of potatoes down, and we could only find one in the yard. Guess they ate the rest.

This morning I was gone for five minutes before dh came down for work, and they had gotten in the trash and strewn it from the kitchen to the front door.

This evening when I came in--gone for 2 hours--the dry oatmeal bag I mixed up for my tour was lying in the dining room by the front door--thankfully not opened, yet.

The culprit in all these antics has to be the largest dog in the house, Charlie, the standard poodle/golden mix, who is the only one who can reach the bread basket. He's not even mine!

Bruiser, my 11 month old cattle dog, runs to his bed in the bedroom as soon as we turn the tv off at night, waits for me to get out of the shower to lick my legs "clean," steals avocado skins out of the trash (boy does he love avocado), trims patches of tall grass on walks by eating it, and his favorite sleeping position is on his back with all four feet in the air. Oh, and using a spray bottle as a punishment-by-distracting-him-out-of-a-behavior method has failed catastrophically since he loves drinking the water out of the bottle. Now it is just a game.

We have two showers in our house & one's rarely used..Anywho, we left a bar of soap there for quite a while then one day we noticed half the soap gone & some rather large teeth marks..

Yukon will eat pretty much anything

Also, I swear she's a kangaroo the way she jumps around..

My Shepherd chases his tail until he catches it.

Then he pulls it hard - and falls on his butt.

He never makes the connection.

And...this is my competitive obedience dog...?

Cody, our Chocolate Lab-looking shelter mutt will sell his soul for a carrot, sleeps flat on his back, and will periodically sprint laps around the backyard for no apparent reason. He's also one of the most vocal dogs I've owned- barks, yowls, grumbles, and growls. The grumbling is probably the funniest- he does it when he wants something, and DH and I will tear up from trying desperately not to laugh or give into him.

When we still had our pups, the older Border Collie would do a "poopie dance" whenever she pooped. She'd find a spot she liked, assume the poopie position...then spin in circles while tapping her back right foot. It was hysterical! :D

I'm trying to picture that  sounds confusing.

KatiePickle, will your dog drink from sports water bottles? Anyone else? During a heat wave Mae's dog walker wondered aloud about carrying water on walks. I showed her how to offer a drink from a water bottle. Mae's got her own not that it matters because her doggie lips don't touch the bottle. Say "let's hydrate" or "let's drink" and she sits and waits for a drink.

My Pyranees, Nanook, used to stamp his front paws and toss his head towards the door when he wanted out. (I guess he thought he was a horse. He was almost big enough to be one!).

My yellow Lab will drink from a water bottle or a camelback. All I have to do is ask her if she wants water and she sits and waits for me to open the bottle or squeeze the mouthpiece. She also knows how to turn on the drinking fountain at the park. Jobob saw her do this a couple of years ago.

We have two dogs. Maggie (the super mutt) is a banana freak. No joke..she'll be outside playing and know when we go to peel a banana and comes tearing inside to drool profusely. I swear that if we didn't give her a piece, she'd be dangerously dehydrated in a matter of minutes! I don't know if she smells them, or sees us...or just has some weird six sense for bananas!

Charlie (the golden/basset mix) likes to throw his body on the ground against things (like the couch or the wall) and growl. We have no idea why. It appears that he's trying to get someone to play with him, but he'll do it even when no one is around!

Maggie has a lot of extra skin/fur. When the dogs are playing, Charlie often takes a big old mouthful of Maggie's fur from the back of her neck and just shakes his head back and forth like they do with a toy. It's so funny to watch because Maggie can basically just stand there and take it because there is so much skin and here Charlie is working away at it like she's some small animal in need of shaking!

Charlie also frequently contorts his body when sleeping:

These stories and pics are great.

OK, this is tasteless and embarrassing, but here you go... Sometimes when Hudson gets really REALLY excited... (like he's been alone sleeping, and suddenly a favorite person comes over, or we go for a walk and run into one of his favorite doggie girlfriends) he will go into an absolute FIT of humping.

Now, mind you, he does not mount the other dog or latch onto anyone's leg. He just arches his back and starts humping the thin air. He does this in a very fast and violent fashion and sort of spins around in circles simultaneously. He does this until I calm him down by holding his face firmly between my hands, look into his eyes, and say CALM DOWN in no uncertain terms.

The first time this happened, I had no idea what was going on. I thought he was having convulsions and was ready to run to the vet! :o I wish I could catch it on video. It's really and truly hilarious to see. Poor baby just can't control himself.

I have a dog that can open a locked door.

She has answered the door for my neighbor, the mailman, the UPS driver, the FedEx driver, and the Jehovah's Witnesses. Oh yeah, and the trash man - our can was in a space he was having trouble with and he wanted to let us know.

It's not uncommon for me to get a text message from my neighbor that reads something like this:
I got home and ur front door was open and the girls in the yard. I out them back in.

Or yesterday:
I had to kiss Stuie... I got locked out of the house but she let me in here before I died from the heat...

Cat outside? It becomes a race between us and her getting to the door so she can let herself out to chase it.

We usually have her contained but sometimes we forget to make sure she's locked in the bedroom before we go (locked in this case means, the door is closed AND there is a baby gate keeping her in there for when she opens the door.)

The other dog has a love for bread. I had just baked banana bread, sliced some up for my husband and I to eat on our way somewhere. He was sitting on the couch, I set the slices on the coffeetable in front of him, walked into the bedroom for a minute or two. When I came back out, there was only one slice left (and no dog in sight). At first I was mad at him - I had cut him three slices and myself two, and here he had pigged and eaten four! I started to tell him that and he says "I didn't touch the bread." So we look at Cookie, who is hiding behind the couch wagging her tail nervously. Not the first time, nor the last, that bread has disappeared.

Bruiser will drink from sport-top bottles too. He will drink from pretty much anything, actually. He loves licking water off of different surfaces. I think the best time was when he hopped into the shower with me to get at the water on the inside of the tub. I think he also aspires to be a landscaper. There used to be a bush where he is standing. One day I came home from work and there was no bush but a very big mess. We rent, so the plants are now off limits, thus the plastic fencing.

Barnabas, my Maltese mix watches TV. He will watch anything with animals, even animated animals. He will run in from the other room when he hears a commercial he recognizes and "likes" or if I say "watch tv" he will run and put his paws up on the entertainment center to watch. Of course his favorite show right now is "The Greatest American Dog"

Finn my Shiba Inu -Beagle cross is a screamer. She screams if you scare her, she screams if she thinks you are going to hurt her, she screams like she's dieing if you try and brush her, I've never heard anything like it – it's scary and sad. Last weekend she was constipated. I take my dogs to the park to walk them, and in front of about 20 people, she jumps out of the car, squats and screams and screams... Everyone watching my dog poop and scream.
I tried my best to look like I wasn't with her, but I don't think anyone believed I just happened to be holding he leash. Picking up that poop was one of the most embarrassing things I've ever had to do in my life.

One of my Border Collies used to lick windows, in the car, by the back door, near the window seat... She'd just sit there looking like she was day dreaming and slowly lick, if you asked her what she was doing she'd stop with her tongue in mid-lick and focus looking like "what? I'm not doing anything".

My Bear, who was a newf mix, adopted me from the shelter. From the minute I brought him home, his head was attached to my thigh. If I was standing still, he had his head pressed against my thigh. If I was sitting, he was standing next to me...head on my thigh. Sleeping; he would stand at the edge of my bed until I fell asleep, with his head on my thigh. He had weak hips from the day he found me, so he never jumped up to be next to me.

Cammie, our current family dog, has adopted my 2 year old. Whenever DS lays down, the dog is right next to him, head pressed against his.

Zeke always gets in the driver's seat when I leave the car. What's that about? I think it may be because I only leave him in the car when it's cold enough to leave him, and he likes the warm spot.

Percy, in the months before she died, constantly licked the carpet in the living room. It was weird.

I just spent about an hour watering plants outside while my ward, Charlie the goofball, took bites from the stream of water out of the hose. I could have watered a lot faster if he had not been interrupting the flow so often.

When I come back and stand at the car window and say "dogs go in the back" she'll slink into the back seat. Sometimes she's actually still in the back seat when I arrive, she knows there will be a cookie for staying .... but that front seat is warm

If I drop something and she does not instantly run sliding into the kitchen say is "find it!" and the hunt is on. Also if I drop food that she's not particularly interested in if I say "find it" well, now it's a treat and she will.

Toby, the rough collie, LOVES to have his belly rubbed. We even have a command for him to lift up his back leg so we can rub his belly. He can be sound asleep, but if you walk by and say, "Happy Leg", his back leg will come up in the air so you can rub his belly.

Mine are so odd its not even funny. Lucy (the white and tan one) "talks"...a lot! Shes full of personality, too much at times, and we are generally rolling almost everyday about something she is doing. Shes a total goofball. Maggie digs, chews bark off of trees, can jump 8' privacy fences, barks at everything. She also has a special talent we have dubbed "doing the bicycle". Everyday she gets on her back and rubs her back on the floor while thrusting her back feet in the air alternating from left to right, much like pedaling a bicycle. Its very funny. She also goes nuts and throws rawhide chewies in the air and spins and does a very funny "dance". They are too much.

But he won't eat a potato that hasn't been cut in some way! He can open the cupboards, and could gorge on potatoes if he wanted. I've even handed him a whole potato. No interest. It has to have been cut or peeled.

My English mastiff, "Nixon" (named for his look-alike twin, Richard Nixon) will do the little dog trick of lying totally upside down to sleep...balanced perfectly on his spine, hind legs suspended and totally relaxed, front legs "begging". He extends his neck out so that the top of his head is on the floor, which makes his Nixon jowels flop open...which then fill with drool while he sleeps. He then snores (wetly) and farts. What looks pretty natural on a little dog looks like a beached whale scene on a 200 pounder.

This would be a perfect photo op except that he is wildly camera shy...he can hear the camera coming, somehow, and rolls over in a spray of drool, then skulks off so he can sleep in peace.

Now that he is 10 and mobility challenged, he seldom does this much any more... but he can still manage a few moments in his favorite position in the sun.

Prepare for more corgi cuteness (aussie too!) Efan (the corgi) seems to be a little ocd and loves to lick. He will go in the kitchen and start licking the grout lines around the tile for any food or crumbs that may have managed to fall in there. Harley (the aussie) is a coffee addict and will do anything to get a taste of coffee.

I have another addition to this thread.

A few days ago the landscaper came to trim the ginormous apple tree we have in our yard. Many of the apples fell as he was doing this.

One of mine is now obsessed with picking up the apples and carrying them inside. She's very picky too - she'll sniff and pick up a few, toss them away, until she finds THE ONE, and then she hightails it back in so she can eat her "prize".

That tree has been dropping apples the entire two years she's been here. And she hasn't ever shown any interest in them until now.

Here she is trying to bring in her beloved apple:

And her starting to nibble at the skin (before I took away her prize!):

my dog has recently started eating poop. it's disgusting and i have to watch him like a hawk and he's so disappointed that i won't let him. i wish i could get him to stop cause then he gets sick later and it's horrible.

both my dogs will lay completely on their backs and the poop eater stretches like a cat (front legs out with arched back).

There is a product called Deter that you can add to your dogs food that will help prevent your dog from eating poop. We had to do it for a while with our dogs and it seemed to really help stop them.

They're wormy and apple seeds are toxic. Sometimes I do let her eat them for a little bit, though. Silly girl.

Love the pics of the apple eater! They reminded me of another weird thing Cody does:

Our backyard is full of raspberry and blackberry vines that were planted by the previous owner. Shortly after we moved in, DH was picking berries and dropped a few. Without thinking, he pointed to them and said, "Cody, get it", just as we do when we drop food inside. We now have a dog who will eat every berry off the bushes if I don't watch him like a hawk! :D

My miniature schnauzer Heidi is a total nut. She does one thing we call "psycho dog", she will just for no reason jumping up and tear through the house at break neck speeds. If she runs into you she will bark then change course and run. She really seems to enjoy our house and my parents because they make a loop.

She barks at kids, she is totally annoyed by the small ones. She really flips out if they are on bikes. At my parents house she sits on the back of the couch which looks at the street and totally goes insane. Luckily for us the dining room is in the front at my house and living room is in the back, she never notices the kids.

When she eats she grabs food and brings it to where we are. And she runs when doing this, she must burn off half the food just carrying it to be eaten.

She scratches her water bowl if empty, but scratches the back door if the food bowl is empty.

She crawls under the covers to sleep. When she used to sleep in the bed she would crawl between my legs, no concern if I was comfortable.

Her grossest weird thing is she tries to lick up your nose. Sometimes she has caught me off guard and succeeded, it feels as disgusting as it sounds.

My other dog Maggie only does a few weird things: she throws all the food out of the bowl to eat and she arches up like the yoga position cobra and rubs her tummy on the carpet. It looks so weird. She also will sleep sitting up, she looks like Eeyore when she does it.

I'm dog-sitting a friend's Maltese this week and here are a couple of the funny things he does. Out on a walk, he feels the need to stop and lift his leg on every tree/hydrant/etc. which sounds pretty normal but after the first couple of times NOTHING is coming out anymore but he still keeps doing it anyway! I think he still thinks he's doing something. The other thing is that if anyone is sitting at the kitchen table eating something, he'll hang out under the table in case we drop any crumbs. Not really that odd but amusing nonetheless.

LOL! Does she chew up stuff made of certain fabrics? My Niki is the Foaminator. One time she got into my husband's range bag, pulled out a gun case, carried it into the backyard, opened it, removed the gun (which was unloaded), and proceeded to chew up the foam lining.

I think Indy would have loaded the gun and shot a squirrel. They frustrate him.

My rat terrier runs the loop de loop in the house break speed like yours ama aggie. I don't know how she can do it without crashing into many close quarters that she runs likety split through.

She has the strange habit of only eating when we are home and the door to her room is open. I think she must be a very social dog.

Yesterday she looked like she had been riding bike. My husband left a bike in her room and she came out with black chain tattoo on her white fur. She was rubbing her back on the carpet vigorously trying to rub it off.:D

LMAO! Taz would've done the same, and he was smart enough to load and aim a gun, too :D Squirrels used to sit up in the trees and just torment him, chattering away, calling him names. They are evil!

My lab humps her bed. When she wants a treat and we don't get up to get it for her -- humps the bed. When we don't give her the attention she is wanting -- she humps the bed. Sometimes she'll hump and drag it around the house all at the same time. We laugh so hard! "Get the bed, Mac!" Embarassing when company is over!

Paisley has just started doing that too at 6 mos. old. Cracks me up! Our wood floors are so scratched up, but it's worth it. She loves it!
