 Was having a great ride this morning, until some slippage issues with my tampon...suggestions? There truly is only one day a month that is really an issue, and today was that day. Want to get back out there tonight, but need some thoughts/suggestions.

Search for "diva cup" on here - more than you *ever* wanted to know about those issues (and an awesome, environmentally friendly solution).

Once when Aunt Flo arrived unexpectedly on the bike, I thought, "Well, there are worse things to be wearing than black padded shorts." :o Hope you find a solution!

Did the search for Diva Cups and found info on them as well as what I used to use, the Instead Cups. I used to be only able to find those when we'd travel to Canada. Once I found them at a store on clearance, and the pharmacist said they were outlawing them in the U.S., well, found the Diva Cups at a local Mother's Market Store and the Instead at a local Rite-Aid...I'm set! Thank you so much...I'm back at it! Gonna' ride tonight to makeup for the loss of the ride this morning!!!:D

I used to use the Instead. A little hidden secret!
Also, FYI, i think tampax changed their tampons. I hate them now. I can feel them and they are uncomfortable. I went to Playtex sport. Much better.

I might have to search for the Diva cup. I can't wear tampons and my solution is to take a pair of 'on their way out' shorts and well, there is a big chamois in there. It does wash out completely but any slippage from a tampon shouldn't matter...I have to figure something out for tomorrow (thanks for the reminder!) because dear auntie F showed up and I have a mtb ride and maxi pads are like sandpaper..ugh...
Back in the day when I needed them :) I used the Playtex Super tampons.... no mess, no fuss, no problems.
I have never heard of the Diva or Instead cups!

I wonder why they are outlawing Instead in the US?
I use (and re-use) them exclusively, now.
Probably Tampax has a lobbyist on the hill or sumthin'.

They're not outlawing them from any information I could find.
For some strange reason  it's common for rumors like that to circulate about various empowering, environmentally friendly devices that women put in our vaginas (menstrual cups, cervical caps).
But it's disappointing you would hear it from a pharmacist, who ought to know better, or at least verify before repeating a rumor like that.

Wasn't it the Today sponge that went by the wayside? I can't remember why, I think it was too costly for the company to continue making them due to the FDA regs. I remember my friends a few years back having me go into every drug store around and buying them up. I had to laugh because I had never used one and here I was buying boxes of them.
I'm definately on a hunt for the Diva cup now. I remember seeing it advertised once and never saw it for sale anywhere. I think I also thought it might be a little sketchy but ya know, it's time to try something new.
Yeah anything that goes up the vagina must be some kind of mysterious voodoo element, especially something that can be re-used. Whatever. Don't get me started on that!

Most natural food stores (including the big chains) have them.

Of course!! A classic. :D
All of the Whole Foods around here sell the diva cup.
I've been using the diva cup way before my adventure in cycling started... and now I just have another reason why I love it.

I love my Diva Cup. I should get an extra so I don't forget them while travelling. Those disposable cups don't even compare, yuck!
I got mine directly from www.DivaCup.com a few years ago.

Ha the Seinfeld episode!!
You know I will have to look during my next big Whole Foods trip in the big city of Hingham. I have a local place I go to but they don't carry them.
or I could order it online but nothing beats a trip to Whole Foods for a Diva Cup!

Totally worth it. It's really no different in "feel" than a tampon, honestly I don't notice it at all.
Some people need to cut the stem part down because it's too long for them, but that's a personal thing. Mine doesn't bother me at all.
Try it!

I have been looking into this since this thread came up. I must be in the middle of nowhere. The closest shop is at least 200 miles away. I have looked at the Intense as an option, but I thought it was a bit discusting to be throwing this thing away after use. How awful for the environment and dump. Therefore, I did not purchase.
Is this biodegratable plastic? or do I need to read thie site some more for information. I can only imagine what the trash guys/people see everyday when they sort stuff or whatever they do with the trash. ugh!
I check out my internet options on this.

hello ladies-(and lurking gents!) today was my first day with the cup. I did wear a liner, for getting used to it. It was fine. No problems. Follow the directions exactly and you will be amazed. I couldn't feel it at all.
I am a huge wuss, had problems with tampons at first, this was FINE.
I found them online for 17.00. I just googled Diva Cup. My whole foods did not carry them.
I'll report back after my "big bad period day" in about two days after it happens and let you know.

I always use the instead softcups - since they came on the market. Never had a problem, but I do admit that I have always had a very light period. Anyway, they are not being outlowed that I know of, we find them in every pharmacy depatment. And their website has loads of info for first-time users.
Good luck!

Okay. I took the Diva dive. Should be here in a few days. Just in time for Aunt Flo. I am eager to give it a try.

Practice once before the unwelcome Aunt arrives - if can be a little tricky. It still "pops" on me when getting it out on occasion. Can hurt momentarily. Of course, I take the BC pills continuously, so she visits 1-2x per year now:rolleyes::rolleyes:

+1 jumping on the Diva Cup bandwagon. Thanks to TE, this month I tried something I had never even heard of before, and had a great experience. It took me a few tries to work out proper insertion and placement, but I think over time it will become second nature. There was a bit of an "ick" factor when I first tried it, but it's really no ickier than any other method...it's just different from what I was used to.
I think someone in this thread has already linked to the TE Diva Cup thread (or just do a search). It's definitely a "must read" for anyone wanting to try this product.
BTW my local Whole Foods doesn't carry them, but I found them at Central Market (an upscale version of our local grocery chain).
