The program I'm working on is nearing completion in one phase and ready to go into the next. Unfortunately, this is a very busy time for me, dealing with my boss, dealing with other organization in the company and KEEPING the customer happy. (yippee!!!)
So the last few weeks, if I was lucky, I could sneak in a one hour ride. And all the weight I lost just came right back on with vengence. :( Having a customer's consultant camping out at my office for the last month has meant that I have to take him to lunch every day. He likes Thai. He likes quicky Greek place. And he likes Fish Taco place called Wahoos. (wahooooo!!!) And though I only eat half the serving, I'm still putting on the weight. The stress of keeping the consultant happy, the program on track, and keeping everybody happy is getting to me. And the engineers as usual are driving me bonkers. So I eat. I come home and graze on chips and salsa, cheese and crackers... food improves my mood. :(
I think I need a two week vacation and just go for a ride. And I just want to sleep in. none of this 6 hour or less sleep per night.
longing for a ride. GO for a ride!! cool breeze through my hair and on my face. cool breeze century. When is that? not soon enough...
Would like a new bike but can't justify the cost. The one I got works... still any bike would be nice to go out on a spin now... Oh mechanics and others agree, I should get a new bike. Suprise that!!
Fredwina, any picture of your ride? or how about Veronica, any pics?
Back to my work at home.

seriously, some times you have make time for a ride. Don't ask what time my alarm clock is set for.
I'm with you in spirit Smilingcat. Since we closed on our house a month ago it's go to work for 9+ hours then come home and work another 5+, my bike is still at the old place and I'm starting to crave a ride like it's crack on two wheels!
To top it off, my honey and I just had a raving/ridiculous fight over the alphabetizing of CD's. http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb217/Deepliquid/Smilies/baldy.gifhttp://i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb217/Deepliquid/Smilies/baldy.gifhttp://i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb217/Deepliquid/Smilies/baldy.gifhttp://i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb217/Deepliquid/Smilies/baldy.gif
the alphabetizing of CD's.

I should tell her that...it would make her head pop off. :p
Oh, big calming hugs to you! Don't stress over the weight, that'll fall into place when things settle back down. Maybe suggest a place you like for lunch? Or just bring your lunch in. If this guy's been there for that long, I'm sure he can manage finding his way around and eating by himself. Even better, tell him you have to go for a ride during your lunch break.

:)Cat - I feel your pain. Missed going on a ride yesterday, due to working OT. To make it worse, there was NO WIND. (there's always wind on the levee).
I agree with NoNo - bring your own lunch. Or do you really have to babysit the consultant? Maybe schedule a ride on your calendar, and invite him to come along? Or just schedule the time, and tell him you have a prior appointment, enjoy lunch without you! ;)
I work for Uncle Sam, so don't have direct knowledge in the care and feeding of consultants. But I can't imagine that you're supposed to be joined at the hip every freaking day.
Good luck. Hope your project finishes soon. Big calming hugs
and I really should get back to my report, the july 31 deadline is looming...

smilingcat, I'm in pretty much the same boat lately, except no consultant to babysit . . . my rides lately have been just the 5 miles to/from work. Hopefully that changes this weekend.
I hope things settle down for you soon.

In my experience it seems like men aren't afraid to ask for what they want or go ahead and do what they had planned. If you turn the situation around, what would he do? If you're entitled to an hour break every day, you should be able to take it or at least compromise with him and do every other day, etc.

(((smilingcat)))I hope you get to ride again soon!
I have been dodging thunderstorms all week but managed to ride everyday :)
Love the visuals! I have some very scenic rides but no mountains!
I agree with above postings, bring your own lunch!

Thank you for thw pictures. Its wonderful that you can get away like that.
And thank you all for comiserating with me.
Yes I did offer to take the consulant to an Itallian restaurant. "NO. makes me sleepy afterwards"
Chinese then? "My wife is from Beijing. She cooks REAL chinese."
He likes Thai. He likes fast Greek place. He likes Wahoo fish taco place. did get him to El Pollo Loco, a regional chicken place. Better than Church's... He didn't care for that too much. Fatburger where they have turky burger besides real burger was ho-hum.
Or he does like suhi, but I have a hard time submitting an expense report for $100 lunch bill. My boss wouldn't approve after a while anyway. Once was bad enough.
I also did ask one of the engineers to take him out. He FORGOT!! When asked, he says he doesn't eat lunch but when I invite/drag him or others out for lunch (I drag them out on rotation), he is more than willing come. I even told him just expense it out. Still, the engineer didn't take him out. Frustrating. I asked other engineers and none of them would have any part of it. I just don't understand. If my boss asked me to take a customer out for a lunch or dinner, I would.
And I know at my last company and my previous boss, they would on occasion take a customer to a titty bar or a strip joint. OMG!! And on one occasion, one of the marketting reps took bunch of Japanese to a shooting range. That, appearently went quite well. All the Japanese were beaming with big smile the next day. They also loved a huge bar-b-q at the office. Something they can't do and get in Japan.
Well, I just have to go for a ride this weekend. My chores be damned.

Here's a photo for you - this is my daughter waiting to cheer on riders at the Death Ride. It was hailing and raining at the time, thus the umbrella.

This is what I am working on. I martyred myself regularly so that the house always looked nice and the errands were run and all that other life stuff that gets in the way. But then I realized it's okay to say that after a day of working (or a week of work) that my first priority is getting on the bike. Turns out, I'm still able to keep the house presentable (as long as you don't open the guest room door ) and the world has not fallen apart and I am a much happier (and healthier) person.
That said, it's still hard sometimes to keep that perspective. (Though my hubby has no problem with it ;))

Hi Sarah,
It doesn't look like Ebetts, Carson pass??
The sky don't look all the purty. And your riders managed to finish in that weather?? holy molly. One year I rode was like that, I grabbed a trash bag and punched a hole in the bottom for my head and two on the side and I was still drenched and COOOLLLLDDDD.
I threw my towel in that year. brrrrrr...
And thanks for the beautiful shot. Reminds me of home growing up in the mountains of Utah.

Yup, it's between Woodfords and Picketts, on the way up Carson. There was rain and hail (and thunder and lightning). It was pretty awful. She was a darned good cheerleader. It was freaking cold.

I rode that ride two times and I never got through it without a huge downpour! Has anyone ever done it when they did not get rained on and really cold?

All the other times I have done the death ride (2002, 2005, and 2007) it was warm to VERY hot. In 2006 when I coached but couldn't ride, it was rainy and there was hail - that year definitely seemed cold at the end.
Every time we go up for altitude camp (usually first week of June), it is generally quite pleasant.
Mountain weather. You never know. I just know I am never doing that ride again without carrying a shell.

That overworking thing seems to be going around. I'm on a workathon, too. Counting today's shift (starting in 2 hours) I have 3 more to go. By Sunday I should be a raving lunatic.
I've been getting on the trainer. I'd rather be outside, but it's better than nothing.

2001 started out chilly in the morning, but ended up quite nice. That's a DANG long ride, though.
