I rode 55 miles today with 2,250 feet of climbing. Preparing for Cool Breeze century August 16th, which has about 4,000 feet of climbing. However, I had an epiphany today, near the end of my ride when my neck was really bothering me from being on the bike so long and my body just wanted to be done and my brian couldn't imagine doing almost twice that distance with another 1,500 feet of climbing. I decided I didn't HAVE to do that century! :D I can do the 62 mile metric instead and do the easier, flatter century a few weeks later that I recently heard about. Cool Breeze would be a wonderful training ride for that, plus the Amtrak Century dh and I are doing on the tandem the first week of September.

I'd rather have "fun" doing the Cool Breeze Metric and set myself up for a more successful and less miserable first century (on my single ... cause I will have done two on the tandem by then).

So there. I'm proud of myself. Now I just have to tell my training partner and not let her change my mind! ;)

I rode the waves of nausea that I've been battling for the past 24 hours.:( This is a nasty bug. I would love to say I rode 55 miles today but I stayed on the couch most of the day. Harper and Figaroe kept me company.

It was a sweet ride today with two of my friends. We rode 35.74 miles with only 1712 feet of climbing and an average spped of 16.6 mph. It was in the high 80's and quite windy for a good part of the ride. We rode through tobaco country and saw plants that were at least four feet high and some of them were flowering. We stopped for water at a small gas station and saw a group of men sitting around shooting the breeze. You gotta love these small country towns.

Had a lovely mtb ride with hubby in the Gats. I had Ergon grips installed on the bike, and they rocked! the bike felt so nice to handle, not to mention my wrists felt good.

we biked roughly 15 km on trail...then we went to the local restaurant and watched OLN Tour Prime time. :)

I rode a 22 mile hilly highway loop just as it was getting dark. I wasnt feeling the power today and did not come close to my personal best on this road but averaged 18.5 mph. The roads were slick from the rain and with the sun going down it was a nice cool ride. When I got home I rasied my saddle since I think the new cleats have thrown things off a little bit. They are taller than the ones on the mtn bike shoes I was wearing. Cant wait to test that theory out on the next ride!

Jiffer- dont let anyone talk you out of it, your plan is very reasonable! :o

Late posting here, but I did a 'hella'hot 37.2 Wednesday. I only know the distance because I've done the route with a computer so many times before. LOL...but..alas up to yesterday, I was still riding sans computer.
My PowerTap/wheels, etc were adopted by a lovely new family yesterday. I'd removed it a little over a week ago and have had 3 blind rides.

So anyway...37.2... I heard the heat index yesterday afternoon when we started was 104..with a lovely sw wind around 8mph. I have no idea how fast(slow) I rode..but usually its around 15mph.

TODAY....dah-da-da-dahhhhhh.. I got my Garmin Edge!!! The baby is charging up and I've been reading the manual while watching/listening to the Tour playback from this morning. All I gotta say is... OAKLEAF...you are a badddd influence, gf. hee hee...
No more riding blind here..

By the way..if you want to check out great prices on Garmin products, go to CompUPlus through a Google search. Their prices are low..but even lower if you enter through a link on Google than directly typing in CompUPlus. They had great customer service and I got my Edge in 3days!

Had a wonderful 34.5 miler around the bay area last night with the club. Sunny, 70 degrees, slight breeze. Two major climbs in there (no Garmin here! :(). One moderate climb at end. That one kicked my butt -- cruised quietly to the end where we had a potluck at the beach. Mmmmm Mmmm. That's what club rides are about!
