I'll be back in sunny Seattle 20-22 August and wondered if folks would like to meet up for dinner one of those nights - let me know your preference.
This time I will accompanied by my SO. He has celiacs disease so is gluten free - knott maybe you can suggest somewhere to eat?
I hope that everyone I met last time will be able to come and anyone else who couldn't make it then.
MMQFC - sorry we couldn't fit our dates around yours but we fly back to Scotland on 30th Aug and need to spend some time in Calgary before then.
I fly out tomorrow and should really be packing but find myself engaged in displacement activity......

Hot diggity!!!
Yeah, I'll help pick someplace to eat! I pretty much eat anywhere, so if we figure out what type of food everyone wants to eat, then I will do the footwork to make sure Future Mr. Bruno and I will be able to eat there.

Definitely!
Well, I'm all packed and ready to go. I fly out tomorrow morning.
Just relaxing watching the Tour de France at the moment.
Susan 126 - I'm not sure we can stay through the weekend as we have to get back to Calgary. I'll let you know if we change our plans.

Oddly enough, I just saw THIS today -
http://www.guardian.co.uk/culture/2008/jul/23/edinburghfestival.comedy?gusrc=rss&feed=uknews
You sure you want to miss it?
I am only available on that friday so maybe it depends on what time you fly out. Maybe an impromptu luncheon could happen on the 22nd? The other days I work until 2am and I really don't think anyone wants to stay up that late.
Can't wait to meet the future Mr. B :D

Glad that you're all over the comedic 'maturity index' for the Seattle gang! No juvenile bathroom jokes for us! :D

I wish! No, I'm going home to help my sisters and brother. We are moving our parents into an assistive living place. Very nice one too! My one sister did all the research and searching and it's beautiful. Of course mom and dad (77 and 91) do not want to move out of their home of over 56 years. It's going to be a tough 12 days! And I won't have my stress releasers . . . MY BIKES to help me destress.

Knott - have you tried Greens GF beer?
When I asked Mr Bruno what he missed most about having celiacs he said 'Beer' and he thinks this is the best GF beer he's tasted. I like it too.
http://www.glutenfreebeers.co.uk/
The US distributer seems to be in washington state so it shouldn't be too hard for you to get hold of some.
The guy that makes it has celiacs so he understands the problem.
Okay - gotta go to the airport now:D:D:D

My favorite gluten free beer hands-down is Red Bridge. Made by the same company who makes Budweiser, and was recently bought by a European company whose name has completely escaped me.... anyway, I hope the new holding company doesn't drop the Red Bridge.
Bard's Tale beers are good, but not as good. They are my second favorite.
I've seen Green's at the store, but it's so incredibly expensive that I've never bought any.

Susan, that sounds like SOME MOVE. 56 years in one home is a good run! Glad you like the place they're moving to, it will do wonders for your peace of mind.
I hope all goes smoothly!

The Brunos should hit seattle on 19th August and plan to be there till 23rd - this would allow a Friday night dinner if that suits folks best - we are happy to go with whatever night suits most folks - so post here or PM your preference and I`ll try and co-ordinate things.
Also we are looking for bed and breakfast or Inn type accomodation that would be handy for some (easy) cycle paths - anyone got any recommendations for a nice place to stay? I picked a couple up from the web but one said no alcohol allowed so that was rejected pretty quick :D
We will be bringing our bikes in the car so its not essential that we are near cycle paths, but it would be nice.

This would be fairly close to the Burke Gilman trail...
I got it from this B&B link--

Thanks -those look really nice - unfortunately no availability:( Seems a busy period for seattle. We got something booked which looks downtownish. Will drive the bikes to where we need to be.

did you say you already found a place? we like the embassy suites in lynnwood. north of seattle but still nice and the prices are not downtown rates. at least i don't think so...:o

Ok - the plan is to have a meal on Friday 22nd August.
Knott - can you recommend somewhere that does gluten free well?
Also can we have a head count so we can make reservations?
The Brunos are around 20th to 23rd and are available for bike rides, coffee, lunch etc. Only exclusion is we have a trip planned for 21st. Let me know if you want to meet up.

Bruno, I just eat where-ever, and honestly I eat out so rarely that I just have no recommendations.
Thai food is always good. There's a good (tiny) Thai place in Edmonds.
What kind of food do you guys like?
(and the Harbor Inn in Edmonds is a decent place to stay. On the beach and a bike route and a couple blocks from the Edmonds ferry dock.)

I should be able to make it :D I am off that day. Will check with DH, he's been working friday nights but maybe he can come out to play.
Bruno28
08-13-2008, 03:19 PM
we both like all types of food -except Mr Bruno finds Chinese problematic and I hate sushi.
I love Thai food so the place in edmonds would be good if others are ok with that.
Glad it looks like you can make it Teigyr.
So far we have Salsa (poss plus Mr) Knott, Teigyr (poss plus Mr). Mimi? Dex? Anyone else????
KnottedYet
08-13-2008, 08:13 PM
I find Chinese food problematic also: too much hidden wheat.
Edmonds is a bit out of the way (but near Salsa, Teigyr, and me), and Seattle does have a lot of Thai. I just have a habit of going to this particular place. http://www.thaicottage.net/
Anybody have other suggestions?
ETA: Thai Cottage is walking distance from the Harbor Inn http://www.nwcountryinns.com/edmonds.html , which is walking distance from the beach and the ferry and the busses... and Edmonds is small and cute and very managable, if you'd like a small town as your basecamp for exploring Seattle.

And for Thai, MAY in Wallingford is excellent.
salsabike
08-13-2008, 09:30 PM
Chris will be there too. And we also have a really great Thai restaurant in the neighborhood. Once we have a head count, maybe we can get a fix on the exact place.
I'm putting it on my calendar now. :D
Bruno28
08-14-2008, 03:01 PM
Thai certainly looks like the front runner.
Could some kind person take on the headcount and restaurant booking stuff - we are heading to Montana on saturday and from then on it won't be easy for me to get internet access. Salsa will keep me up with what's happening.
I'm reeeally looking forward to seeing you guys again and meeting some new folks too :D
And Mr Bruno is intrigued to meet you all as well!

if it's closer in (like Wallingford) Raleighdon and i can make it. the further north it is, the harder it gets for me to make it. I think we're in, let me know
(I'm a little shaky right now, son getting married saturday and my headache is back)

Let's figure out whose Thai restaurant is most central to the most people (or most direct to get to for Bruno) and has the best parking.
The winner can be in charge of head count and reservation-making and directions (since they know their restaurant).
Bruno - what hotel are you guys staying in? (or Salsa, if you have the info?)

I don't have a favorite Thai place, my tastes tend towards Vietnamese (Wild Tamarind comes to mind!) but I do have a recently wedded son. Shown here with their respective brothers.

What a lovely photo, Mimi. And the weather was fab yesterday. (At least it was here in Vancouver).
Bride chose a headpiece that suits her.
A great happy day to reminisce for years to come!
I don't know about your family, but weddings is just a wonderful happy excuse for my entire...extended family to get into those precious pics. It gets harder and harder to get everyone together. (It doesn't help that I am the only one that lives 4,000 kms. away...)

It was great to see Knot and Teigyr and Jocelyn and Salsa again too. It was a comfortable group, and Raleighdon and Mr Salsa did a lot of shoulder slapping (attaboys) to each other.

Hubby and I kept saying over and over again how wonderful the weather was.
And salsabike I signed up for the Cycle the WAVE! Hubby is doing some volunteer work for his gun club that day so I decided to ride the "all gal" Cycle the WAVE ride. Anyone else going to be there? Oh and I checked option "Burly Girl" . . .
