Thought I start this one....Praise for the Significant Other.....First a little preliminary info:
Yesterday on our Team in Training ride, we were riding from Roseville through Loomis up to Newcastle, to the back of Auburn, back to Roseville - 45 miles. It's a nice ride, mainly rollers, and one major hill. This hill is (now was) my nemesis  ...I couldn't get up that sucker at all last year, and it really got into my head. It's a couple of miles sustained, but I don't know what the grade is. Everytime I drove up highway 80 and saw the Indian Hill Road exit I just cringed....Well, I decided I needed to get up that dang hill. Yesterday I was just antsy to get it done. My riding partners we being pokey at the reststop right at the bottom of it, and I had to calm down enough to nicely encourage them to get going. So anyway, we got going up the hill, and to my surprise it was.........ok  . I even took my little disposable camera and snapped a few pictures. I dropped the camera, and was able to stop pick it up and easily get going. I even was able to catch up to one of the other riders....Well, we got to the top and the rest of my group, about 6 riders was waiting at the top. There was a car up there that had balloons on it, wow I thought, what's that about.....Well.....here it is: my significant other partner, showed up to congratulate me on finally getting up the hill!!! She had brought fresh strawberries and just whipped whipped cream, that cordless blender works great!!!!! And a nice card AND a beautiful pair of blue topaz earrings!!!! :D I was totally surprised because she was supposed to be home asleep from working all night. I was also a little embarrassed, but it was ok. And my teammates are all jealous..... :D
Last year she sagged for the team for a couple for months and spoiled the team with fresh strawberries, cantaloupe, watermelon, and cookies....They loved her, and really miss her this year. But she can't because she works the dreaded graveyard shift and doesn't get home till 8am, and we pedal down at 8. So anyway, she is incredibly supportive, and even goes out of her way to hit the bike shop when we're out and about - "Don't you need another pair of socks?", "Do you have enough cytomax?", "Is that seat still holding up?". So she's a definite keeper! :p
