View Full Version : Myka Specialized
Hey....I'm VERY new to mountain biking...so new in fact I don't have a bike! But I have been looking and found a Myka Specialized among others. I've tried researching this bike but to no avail. My boyfriend had never heard of the brand so he suggested I do a little more research before I dropped $400 on it. Any thoughts?
Thanks!!!!

Hi Tami-
Welcome to the forum and congrats on looking for a new bike! As for the Myka Specialized... the brand of the bike is Specialized, Myka is the model name. Specialized is one of the major bike brands out there and very respected among bikers. I ride one of their road bikes and love it! Myka is one of their woman's specific mountain bikes. I don't know which level of myka you are looking at specifically, but given that you said it was ~$400, I would guess either the Myka HT or Myka HT Sport. You can see a lot more on the bike on the specialized website: http://www.specialized.com/bc/SBCBkModel.jsp?sid=08Myka
While this will be a good bike, the most important thing when buying a bike is fit... so see about going into a bike shop, having them measure you for a bike and ride a bunch of different brands and geometries of bikes and see what you like!
good luck, and let us know what you end up deciding!

Thanks for your input and the website! I think I have narrowed my decision down to the Specialized Myka Sport and the Trek 4300. Any suggestions? I think I've become a fan of the lever shifter rather than the twist shifter.
I should be making the purchase within the next fews days/weeks so I will definitely keep you posted =)

It's now just a matter of what fits you best. The Specialized mountain bikes fit me a lot better than the Treks. Just ride them both and see which one feels the best! I have the Myka Sport and when I got on it just felt right.
As for index vs grip shifting...I've had the grip shifters before and it's really easy to accidentally shift on those. I'm not a fan of them. Does the Trek have grip shifters? The Myka HT does, but the sport does not.
The Trek has an index shifter and I believe I have made my decision to get the Trek. It just seems like the most bang for my buck =)
Thanks for everyone's help. I think Saturday I'm going to order my new bike....I'm so excited :D
