Hello ladies! I am going on vacation for a week in the outer banks at the end of the month:D I can't wait! Anyone live around there who has an idea on where to rent a road bike for the week? I dont want to take mine with for a hundred different reasons. Thanks!

I'm sorry I can't help you with the bike rental, but I do know the area somewhat. spent a few years near there in Elizabeth City. There used to be hang gliding lessons taught at Jockey's Ridge. It's a very nice area, lots of outdoor stuff to do, and not so far from Norfolk if you need city life. The dunes are beautiful, and the outer islands are fascinating.

I was there over the 4th of July and noticed several shops renting bikes. Unfortunately, most of what I saw were cruiser style. I did a Google search and came up with this page, http://www.outer-banks.nc.us/tgod/biking/obbike.htm, that you might check out.

We didn't ride bikes but I wondered about bringing ours next time but wasn't sure if the sand was ok for the gears. Will the sand mess up the bikes?

Thanks for the advice:) Im going to check that out for sure. Road bikes would be horrible on the sand, it would slip everywhere. Ive rented cruiser bikes before and they are just okay. Im looking to hit up some of the bike trails they have with a road bike rental:) Ive also looked at some places online to rent, just watned to see if anyone has ever used one as a rental and how well it worked.
