View Full Version : Anyone know anything about older (9 years) Schwinns?
I saw this ad on Craigslist and was wondering what the knowledgable ladies here thought of it: Schwinn Passage (http://hartford.craigslist.org/bik/752298245.html). If the frame is the right size (I was going to email to see how tall she is - I'm assuming "she" because of the Terry saddle), I think this may solve my commuting problem. No need to try to attach a rack to the Dolce, and no taking racks on and off depending on my ride. Just a true commmuter bike. So what do you gals think?

I don't know. I'm not an expert (far from it), but that seems a bit pricey to me. Considering you'll have to buy new tires, and do a tune-up on it since it's sat around for the last 6.5 years. I'm sure even tho the tires are not dry-rotted they're still 9 year old tires and you'll want new fresh tires for your commute. It looks nice and in good shape, tho.
I'm sure others will have more educated opinions than mine.
You may have to spend anywhere from $100-$200 for new tires and a proper tune up. Seems like you could get a new bike for not much more that would already come ready to ride. Or, a cheaper used bike that would do the trick for a lot less. Just my thoughts.
They live about an hour from me. I was thinking of offering to drive up if they paid for a tune-up. But I also wasn't sure if that was a decent price to begin with, or if those bikes were considered junk. I did email to see about the size, doesn't hurt to ask.

It looks like a pretty decent bike from what I can tell from the photos. $200 isn't exorbitant if it's in good working condition, no rust and no cracking on the tires.
I heard back from the seller, and she's 5'-6". I'm afraid the bike may be a bit large for me at 5'-1". Perhaps I'll just wait....

Seems like a pretty good price- you could go throw your leg over it and see...
I'm more worried about the reach. I'm going to wait, I've got too many bills to pay now anyway:(
