First of all, at the last bike expo, I found a free magazine.
It was a little bike rag, with a few nice articles in it; but it also had a contest; enter art work that had to do with the "bikeosphere" so I did.
the magazine: momentum, the magazine for self-propelled people (http://www.momentumplanet.com/)
and I got my art in the show, one of my pieces is in the advertisement for the show in their free on-line copy of the magazine http://www.momentumplanet.com/files/mom34-mag-web.pdf
The show will be Friday, July 18th in Vancouver BC , with a fashion show and reception, running from 7:00 - 11:00 pm.
The location of the event has been changed and will now be held at Centre A Gallery, at 23 West Pender St., Vancouver, BC (the ad in the magazine lists a different gallery.)
I'm going to be there!

Wow, Mimi, Congrats...have fun in Vancouver, too. Is the 'free' version of the magazine the same as the subscription. It looks like an interesting magazine, but pricey...

Congrats Mimi! I'm sure you will get a buzz from meeting other cycling-artists at this bike art gallery event.
If I do show up at the gallery after biking homeward from work, I will use my name,..shootingstar as the initial intro.
How many pieces will you be showing there at the Vancouver gallery event?
I think I know what you look like...but just indicate some feature of your clothing/something else.....

Mimitabby meets Shootingstar; here we are posing in front of my smaller watercolors and someone else's mixed media painting.

one of the favorite pieces at the show was this green bike.
Yes, it's sporting a brooks b67
http://www.sersale.org/bike/artshow1a.jpg
outside, there were many more bikes parked than cars!
http://www.sersale.org/bike/artshow1b.jpg
I really liked this wallhanging, it was for sale, about 1000 dollars canadian.
http://www.sersale.org/bike/artshow2.jpg
These were eyecatching pieces as well.
http://www.sersale.org/bike/artshow3.jpg
The fashionshow started, it was "bikeable" clothing. All the models rode gorgeous new urban cruisers. Note well, street people were behind the glass walls and doors, also enjoying the spectacle. It was a strange contrast.
http://www.sersale.org/bike/artshow3a.jpg
This bike folded up very nicely.

shootingstar's honey is a bike advocate, he came to the show too.

The next morning, we hustled over to T & T market and then Granville Island and bought fruit and other delicacies for our lunch and dinner.

Here's my mother with some of the fruit.

Great, Mimi!! I love the pictures! Thanks for taking the time and trouble to post them here.
Strange martian lookin' fruit! Wonderful bike art show.
I subscribed to Momentum magazine thanks you to your pointing out their website. I even ordered a few back issues as well....looks like a great bicycling lifestyle magazine, as opposed to the usual ads-disquised-as-articles bike magazine fare I've mostly seen. Thanks for the tip! :)

It was great to have met you mimi! How old is your Mom? She has this terrific jawline that holds up to aging so well...
I asked mimi if there is a coterie of cycling artists in Seattle. She thinks not. Maaybe they'll come out of the woodwork there one day.
The cycling fashion show was fun also. Something like copenhagen cycling girls thing wearing typical comfortable street clothing. One of the models as part of her runway cycle-walk in her outfit, get off the bike, coquettishly ham it up and quickly fold up her folding bike that she was riding.
The pink large martian-looking fruit is..dragonfruit. It has a nice mild soft texture inside. Right now, only in 99 cents per lb.
Here and in Toronto, there are loosely formed groups of cycling artists where there have been cycling-themed artshows/auctions. It's a great thing to see and even better, to love/do a sport that can also generate/inspire sideline creativity involving themes of cycling.
I will post some links to performing cyclists later in Vancouver & Toronto area.

Wow! That's awesome Mimi, your work is so beautiful! I, too, really envy people with artistic talents. Looking through your blog, I love how you capture faces.
And I have to say I've been digging (and kinda lusting over) your avatar, too. Thanks to Jes for asking about it so I could find the whole picture. It is a really gorgeous image.

If you scroll all the way down that web page links (before or after you get captivated by the rockin' Youtube show), mimi was 1 of 11 artists from across North America at this gallery show.
And links to the fashion places where the gals' outfits came from...makes me realize how clueless I am about real chickdom/ copenhagen bike girl-street clothing. I can't seem to get past beyond the snappy bike jersey these days...
I enjoyed that videotape...it must have been a labour of love (free volunteer work) to get it edited and up on the Internet pretty fast. :)
