I am new to riding and have only been riding about 6 weeks. My husband commutes on a rode bike and encouraged me to get a tandem rode bike and ride with him. So far I love it. We have been riding about 70 miles a week. I love all the suggestions on this site and have been reading religiously! Now I'm finally posting because I'm having a problem....

I have been doing the saddle search to find the right one for me. I recently went to a Specialized dealer and got a Lithia saddle. I love the seat and it has been the best I have found for my sit bones and comfort. My problem is that since I got the new saddle I have been getting a reddened raised mark along the seam of my bike shorts. I never got this before and am using the same Pearl Izumi shorts I was wearing before.

Is this a problem with the saddle, shorts, or something else? It is much worse on the right side and feels like a burning sensation when riding. Could it be my position on the saddle since its alot worse on the right? I am dreading having to find another saddle since this one has been so comfortable on the rest of my body, but I also can't go too far with this seam problem.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Karen

Different shorts? that don't have the seam right there?

I have PI shorts I hate on a road bike. They're fine on my mtbs where I use a different saddle.

Easier to try a different pair of shorts than find a new saddle - especially for riding a tandem.

Maybe this saddle is too wide...

You could try turning the nose a little bit left and see if that helps.

I recently got a new saddle that I love and now have trashed my PI shorts. The padding was too thick and I now have been able to use tri shorts with more success. If the saddle fits, look into different shorts.

Thanks for the replys. I got some new shorts and am going to try them out this evening. Hopefully this will solve the problem so I can start building up my weekly riding.
