I got on the bike at the crack of dawn to do one of my favorite Sunday morning rides. It's a winding, hilly, back country road with steep, long climbs. I saw mist rising from the fields and calves frolicking. A new foal was standing near the mare and a deer crossed the road as well as 2 rabbits. I saw a favorite roost for the buzzards too. The climbs were agonizingly slow, but after I finished, I felt I had really accomplished something. When I finished that ride, I jumped on the mountain bike and took the dogs for their exercise. The weather was perfect and I finished none too soon before the winds really started picking up.
How was your ride?

Took a little mosey down to the beach and the ferry dock. Walked along the sailboats, saw one for sale big enough for one person to live on: $5,500. Had a little daydream about living on a boat... not much room for bikes, though.;) Sat on a bench or two, watched scuba divers heading into the water (low tide) and a heron poking around in the shallows. Saw ferries ferrying folks back and forth. Had breakfast on the beach.
On the way back home I was passed by a GORGEOUS mint green Davidson tandem with S+S couplers. I hollered out to the riders about their nice bike, and they seemed surprised I knew what a Davidson was.
As I was riding through the forest-y bit near my house, I kept hearing a line from a Rod Stewart (?) song "have I told you lately how much I love you" in my head. I sang it to my moustache bars off and on through my little ride, cuz I like them so much.
Later today I think I'll ride to the farmer's market. But first I think I'll take a nap. (it is my day off, after all!)

I rode to church and back home. Then I noticed that I was 12 miles short of having 750 miles for the month. So I went back out again. Now I have 751:cool:

An almost perfect day for a century. Forty club members gathered in the small town of Boston, Ky early this morning. Our destination was Munfordville, Kentucky which is approximately 50 miles to the south of Boston.
The pace out of Boston was fast and as is the norm groups of various speeds and abilities quickly formed. The big climb up Edlin Hill further broke the groups up into even small numbers but again the group as a whole pushed on and with gusto! The weather gods blessed us for when we started out at 8:15 the skies were overcast and temperatures were in the low 70's. The only non-perfect weather issue was the wind. It was blowing from the south and it was strong (12-29 mph). However, the groups held together and onward we pushed for lunch was awaiting us in Mundfordsville. We quickly took over the Subway shop and enjoyed our sandwiches and the company. We turned our bikes north after lunch and headed back to Boston - lots of smiles and laughter amongst the group. The cloud cover had disappeared and the sun gently warmed us as we headed north. It would disappear again keeping us cool during the hottest part of day. The tailwind we had hoped did not materialize to its fullest potential. It was more a crosswind but hey every now and then it would give us a gentle push. In the end we logged 101.5 miles and all came in with smiles. As one member often exclaims, "life is good."
I had a great ride for I found my rhythm early and maintain it throughout the day. I rode this ride last July and average 16.37, today's average a bit higher; 16.41. It was a great day to ride!

49 miles at about 17.7 mph. Boy, it was WINDY!
I was hoping for a metric, but slowed down to help a new rider who was struggling on his 5th ride (which was 30 miles!!!)...and just lost my motivation to keep going.

I got to meet and ride with Sue (mtkitchen) on my local mountain climb, mingus mtn. It was a great day to climb, the weather cooperated with cool temps and getting very early start didn't hurt either. She is getting ready for a serious climbing ride in a few weeks and wanted to get some training in, as Phoenix is flat.(and HOT) On the way up, I stopped in the 22% section to snap some action photos of her, and to my surprise she turned around to do it again! Crazy. We rode to the top with my hubby catching us about 1/2 way up from a later start. He escorted Sue down and back up the backside as I was having an "off" day. I waited at the top and met a very nice boy named Sean.
She claims not to be a "climber" but don't let her fool you! She kicked my butt in my own backyard, and went the distance down the backside. It was awesome to meet and ride with another TE'er, you're welcome to kick my butt anytime.;) ....but I still OWN the descent!!

Thanks for the great ride and the great breakfast afterward! :D Motochick is a great hostess!
Believe me, I'll be back to ride again. Sure is some beautiful country you've got up there.

Battled a 17 mph NW wind for the first stretch, and we were SO relieved to turn our backs on that to go east. We just flew along that road!
I put on sunscreen but only once early in the ride, therefore I have a mild burn but it'll be brown soon. No pictures--we both had cameras and both forget to use them. We didn't see much that was photogenic anyway.
I rode 68 miles, that's the longest ride this year for me. Thanks for the company, MUpedalpusher! :)
