I just got this from a local bike shop which has a limited selection of Basil items:

It features really long hooks at the back, but no bottom attachment to the rack. Still, the hooks are so long that it won't jump off, no matter how big a bump you hit!

When you get somewhere, you just pull it off and carry it by the handle. Great for grocery shopping!

$30 CDN for one.

I'm working on a home-made pannier, but this will remain useful even if I build something else.

I think we'll use it mostly for groceries. I'm far enough from the office that I'd rather have closed panniers on my bike. But I'll probably just keep it near the door, and switch from panniers to this when I drop by at the end of the day before going for groceries.

A Swedish co-worker has one that's really similar, had it for years. He loves it, but says that the only problem is that when he takes it to meetings people tend to think it's the garbage bin.

That does look like a great basket. I'm always leery of the bags/baskets/panniers that don't have like a hook on the bottom. I like how deep that one is. I think it's hilarious that that one guy's always gets mistaken for a trash bin. Hope it continues to work out for you!

I saw these when I was looking for rear baskets...I finally bought ones that dex tried out yesterday. I thought these were a typo and were actually front ones bc of the hooks. Oh well. I really wish the LBS here carried more commuter stuff. That would make it easier and who wants to drive all over looking for baskets???
